September20,1995 2 Campus Sports Volleyball team works hard By Beth Morris After playing two games, the Meredith volleyball team stands 1-1, losing their first game on Sept. 11 to NC Wesleyan and defeating Method ist College on Sept. 14. Dr. Marie Chamblee, the team’s coach, said that her team played well against NC Wesleyn but they got too far behind to regain the lead. Chamblee commented on the team’s first victory saying, the players “showed team effort" as they “came in more prepared and are staning to work together better. ’’ Captains Tara Poe, a junior from Durham, and Cathy Garrett, a senior fiom Fayetteville, had outstanding performances in the NC Wesleyn game, according to Chamblee. The team has opened up their 1995 fall season with much enthusiasm, leaving Chamblee with a “bright outlook. ” Chamblee says that this year’s team is “outstanding” and “potentially one of the best hitting groups ever.” Come out and support the team! Their next home game is Monday, Sept. 25 and once again the “angels” will challenge Methodist College. Game time is 7pm at Weatherspoon gym.
