SIFE serves and

In two full years of establishment,
the women of SIFE, Students in Free
Enterprise, have dedicated them
selves to serving and teaching their
community about free enterprise.
But where do you start to teach
people in such a diverse community
as the triangle area?
SIFE started in two grammar schools
last year working with children.
“We read about some of the schools
problems in the newspaper, "said Dr.
Tony Bledsoe, SIFE co-sponsor..
“We chose young children because
they are the most impressionable.”
Last year SIFE went to Fox Road
Elementary in Wake County. Here,
SIFE members performed skits
about business ethics. After the skits
each student had to decide whether
the actors were ethical or unethical
in their action.
“There was plenty of classroom
involvement,” said Julie Honeycutt,
SIFE president, “there was much
interaction between us and the
The interaction did not end after the
skit program. SIFE returned to Fox
Elementary with a Macintosh
computer to donate last Wednesday.
Julie Horieycutt, Dr. Tony Bledsoe,
co-sponsor Dr. Glen Chappell, event
chair Brenda Kalavski, and secretary
Nital Shah presented it to five
students who each represented the
top of her class.

“The five students plugged in the
computer, loaded it up, and started
playing with a program during the
presentation,” said Honeycutt.
“We learned as much if not more
from the students,” said Bledsoe.
But there learning and teaching did
not stop there. SIFE is also working
with Morehead Elementary in
Durham. They are doing programs
much like the one at Fox Road
Elementary, and are hoping to
perform the business ethics skits
here this year as well as at Fox Road
Please keep in mind that SIFE is a
club that is open to all students,
business and non-business majors.
They are planning a Networking
Night on campus to provide an
opportunity for undergraduates and
graduates to network with women
business owners and professionals
in this diverse area.
“The night will be very low stress
and a good time to come and seek
possible employment whether it be
full or part time, “ said Honeycutt.
Everyone is invited to come and join
in becoming the women leaders of
