September27,1995 Campus Extras 5 News from the History Department • Dena White was awarded with the Carolyn and Frank Grubbs Scholarship in teaching for 1995-96. The award was established by Baibara Goodmon, a former history major, and is given yearly to a junior certification student who is majoring in history and who plans to teach in secondary social studies. • The department of history has obtained the services of Dr. William Price as Kennan Professor of History. Dr. Price is presently teaching Introduction to American History and in the spring will offer the first ever Public History course at Meredith. Public History is the application of history job techniques to the business and public worlds. Price recently retired as director of the NC. division of archives and history. He has been honored with the NC Literary and Historical Association’s Crittenden Memorial Award for his outstanding service to the preservation of NC history. Price has also received the Ruth Cannon Award in historic preservation.
