October 25,1995 10 Campus Sports Fall sports at Meredith By Allison Carter Volleyball Meredith hosted the Women’s Col lege Volleyball Invitational tournament this past weekend October 20-21 in Weatherspoon Gymnasium. Meredith played against Salem College and won three games on Friday. The team then played Mary Baldwin the same day and won two out of three games, followed by a win of three games against Agnus Scott. The Angels advanced to the semi finals on Saturday where they success fully triumphed over Hollins College to advance to the final round held late Saturday afternoon. Meredith played Randolph Macon in the finals where Randolph Macon came out on top. The Angels became the runners up of the entire tourna ment. The team had a home game on Tuesday Oaobex 24, and will play in a tournament hosted by Salem College in Winston-Salem October 27-28. “I was surprised to see how well, we could play together as a team. If we do well on our fundamentals we should come out on top at Salem,” said Meredith Pittman, freshman. Soccer The soccer team played St. Mary’s at home in a 4-1 win on Oaober 10. The team won against Hollins in an other home game on Thursday, Oct. 12. The Angels lost to Randolph Ma con at home 5-1 last Satureday. They played at St. Mary’s where they won 3- 0 on Monday. So far in the season the team has won nine games, lost five and tied one. The next game will be at home aginst Greensboro College on Wednesday, Oaober 25th at 4:00 p.m. “1 think the team is having a great season. We got off to a rocky start, but we have been strong ever since. It takes a new team a while to get to know one another, and 1 think we have accomplished that task,” said Sara Dixon. Tennis The tennis team just completed their fall season in a game against Sweetbriar where Meredith won 8 to 1 this past Saturday. Meredith won*8 to 1 against Averett, as well on Wednes day, October 18. In a tournament at Mary Baldwin the Angels had several team members to come out on top. Freshman Ann Mebane won singles, while Mebane and captain Dorothy Livesay won doubles. Both Holly Tharpe and Brooke Ramos won consolation matches. “ We ended on a really strong note. We all had a great time and have be come a close nit team. We can now look forward to the spring season,” said Livesay. HALLOWEEN WEEK ON MCTY Wednegdau.
