November 15,1995 Campus Extras 7 Holland: continued from page 4 of Kappa Nu Sigma, senior adviser to Alpha Lambda Delta and a member of Beta Beta Beta, the biology honor soci ety. She also serves as a student repre sentative to the Meredith College Task Force. Holland’s primary goal for SGA, one she says the entire executive board shares, is to increase and improve com munication among students, trustees, faculty and administration. She had lunch last month with President Weems and Norman Kellum, newly elected chairman of the board of trustees, and was impressed with Kellum’s view of the college. Holland said, “he told me we both are products of the college and he’s right. He is very much in tune with students’ needs. He is aware of the big issues. It’s nice to have some one who’s way up there be interested in our needs.” Kellum was scheduled to have dinner with the SGA executive board the day of our interview and Holland was enthusiastic about the possibilities for beginning an on-going dialogue. Holland usually spends Sundays at home and attends Holly Springs Bap tist Church with her grandmother who takes a special interest in her activities. “My grandma has high expectations of me,” she smiled, “I guess she has morp time to worry about me than she did about my dad and aunt when they were growing up.” During the Christmas break Hol land plans to work on her honors thesis. She is researching the use of physical therapy with patients who are recovering from strokes. She says she watches “good, mind less TV" as a study break and enjoys suspense movies. Dining out is a favor ite pastime and she likes to try new foods. Maximilian’s in Cary is one of her favorite restaurants, and she re cently dined on gator at Cajun Charlie’s. Holland said she has no time during the school year to read for fun, but tries to catch up on the best sellers during the summer. Charlie, a seal point Siamese, is Holland’s special pet. There is also a “very good friend” in her life whose first name is Ward. “If we ever get married,” she laughed, “we’d have to change our name to Cleaver because we’d be Ward and June.” A May graduation and enrolling in grad school are Holland’s immediate goals. Her theme in last spring’s elec tion campaign was, “Oh, the places we’ll go.” SGA President June Holland knows where she’s going, and she’s definitely on her way.
