March 26,1997 Campus Awards Mathematics competition winners announced Vivian Kraines Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences Dr. Virginia Knight presented awards to tbe winners of the Fresh- man-Sopbomore Matbematics Com- petitioD at the Caoaday Mathematics & Computer Science Club meeting Wednesday, March 5. Lora Gibbs, Heather Hatcher and Meghan Koebley tied for first place. Lora is a ftesbman hooor student and plans to major in mathematics. After graduating from Meredith, she plans to pursue ao engineering degree. Heather is a sophomore bonor student and Teaching Fellow. She is double- majoring in matbematics and chemis try and plans to teach in a secondary school. Megan is a sopbomore pursu ing a BS in computer science and a BA in matbematics. She was tbe second place winner last year. In addition to the scholarship awards, Amanda Sundstrum received a Book award for Honorable Mention. Amanda is a freshman who plans to major io the mathematical sciences. First given in 1982, tbe Freshman- Sof^omoreMathematicsContestpro- vides sQidents witb the opportunity to try tbeir problem solving siul Is outside the coafmes of a particular course. Through the contest, tbedepartmentof mathematics and computer science is pleased to recognize the academic in terest and achievement of freshmen and sophomore matb students. The department looks forward to sponsor ing the contest next year. Delta Mu Delta inducts new members Melinda Wooten, President Delta Mu Delta Twenty-three Meredith students were inducted into Delta Mu Delta National Honor Society in Business Administration Friday, March 21 1997. An ixiduction ceremony was held in Belk Dining Hall with guest speaker aad honorary member Harlan Boyles, State Treasurer. To be eligible for induction, tbe student must meet these criteria; 1. Good character - 2. Junior or Seniw standing 3.
