Coinpiled from Reports Roman Catholic oun Mother Tere^ who aided the poor, sick, and dying, died from heart failure Friday evening at ber convent in Calcutta, India at the age of 87. Mo ther Teresa, who had been suf fering from heart ixohlems for maoy years, was known throughout tbe workj for her faith and charity. In 1950, she founded tbeCoogregatiOD for tbe Mis sionaries of Charily . Her order now has over 4,000 nuns and runs 517 orphanages, homes for tbe poor, AIDS hospices and other charity centers worldwide. In 1979, she won the Nobel Peace Prize for her humanitarian efforts. In 1985, she received the highest United States civilian award, the Medal of Freedom. Most recently. Mother MCA President Melissa Blackwood stated, “It’s something that we haven’t done for a while. On Thursday, students enjoyed food and fellowsbipat tbe MCA-spon- sored picnic in tbe courtyard. Not only did the picnic offer great food and fellowship, but it also featured great music. Stone’s Cry, a Raleigh-based Christian band, performed many songs they bad written and composed. Many students remained until tbe end of the picnic. Sophomore Michelle Priddy commented, “The band was awesome, r ve never stayed at a picnic tbe whole time, but the music was so good. 1 didn’t want to leave. 1 bope that tbe band will come again.” On Friday nigbt, a packed van of students left Meredith for a night of See MCA page 5 Volleyball team scrimmages □ Scrimmage with Shaw University proves beneflcial for Meredith Angels. Beth Hall News Editor Last Wednesday, tbe Meredith Angels VolleybaUteam tried out their wings at their home scrimmage against Sbaw Uni versity. Teams play the best tbreeoui of five matches during regular games. Meredith lost tbe fust three matches, but tbe team played two more matches be cause it was a scrinmiage. The scores were 15-5,15-3,15-7,4- 15, and 15-6.
