Meredith College's long-
anticipaied production of Alice
in Wonderland, performed
Thursday. Feb. 3. and Friday.
Feb. 4. was received with
delighted appreciation from
Meredith students.
The performances were put
on entirely by the faculty and
staff on campus.
Faculty and staff, keeping
their parts, iheir jokes and their
costumes secret from inquiring
students, made sure that the
play surprised all.
From the time people began
lining up outside of Jones
Auditorium until the show
began, there was an atmos
phere of excitement as students
prepared lo see the twentieth
production of Alice in Wonder
land.
From beginning Jo end,
Alice was full of surprises and
kept the audience laughing.
The Maureens made anoth
er appearance (from Corn-
huskin’) as a lobster, the
Caterpillar, the Do Do, and a
card, singing about “walkin’
in an Alice Wonderland.”
Director Dr Jean Jackson,
vice president for student
development, introduced the
production and advised the
audience to "bring your
books, bring your programs
and see if you can find out
who this cast really is."
Some costumes, like the
lobsters’, were quite elabo
rate, and the references to
aspects of life at Meredith,
from memory lines to Ihe
Belk Dining Hall produced
more than a few laughs.
The fairies on roilerblades
evoked modern images of
William Shakespeare’s A Mid
summer Night's Dream.
And Alice began quoting her
Chaucer memory lines:
“Whanne that April...," bring
ing back memories of Mered

Yet another Meredith tradi
tion besides Alice in Wonder
land continued last Thursday
night, Feb. 3.
The class of 2000 celebrated
l(X3ih Nighi, marking 100 days
until its graduation on May 14.
Traditionally, seniors use the
last two digits of their gradua
tion year and begin counting
down the days until they face
the real world.
The celebration usually

begins with a dinner and a
party afterwards complete with
music and dancing.
There is a midnight serenade
by their little sister class, the
class of 2002.
“Our lOOih night was made
doubly special because the pro
duction of Alice was
on the same night.”
said Susan Spencer,
senior.
"We understood
that the performance
could not be an event
for us. but we thought
it would be nice (o go
see it as a class with
our little sisters. It
made our celebration
a little more special
for us than all the
rest.” said Erin Grant,
senior class president.
After the perfor-
.nance of Alice, everyone

to get autographs and cake. But
once the Rotunda had been
cleared of cast members and
eager students waiting for auto
graphs. the seniors were ready
to cut loose on the Karaoke
machine and cut into the cake
their little sisters provided.
Senior April Bussells said,
"The students who were in
charge did an excellent job. It
was a great time to just sit back
and talk.”
Cameron Talbert, who was
one of the lOOlh Night co
chairs said that they "did
everything possible to make
the night unforgettable, from
cute t-shirts to notepads with
100 Meredith memories.”
The seniors laughed and
shared memories until mid-
