HEILMAN continued from page one
ceiling tiles. Tuesday and
Wednesday, the crews cleancd
the air ducts on second and
third floors to gel rid of the
smoky odor that lingers in the
rooms of many residents.
'They've learned how to do
things with chemicals and
cleansing lluids,” said Strick
land.
Those students who live on
the first floor will have the rest
of the week to move their
belongings, and Gleason
stressed that all students would
receive new rx>m assignments,
adding that every effort would
be made to keep roommates
and suite mates together
"We’re consolidating some stu
dents that have vacancies," she
said.
All first-floor residents were
invited to a pizza party on
Tuesday evening. At this party,
they were infonned about their
room assignments. In addition,
it was a time for them to recon
nect with others on their hall.
“We know this will be diffi
cult," said Gleason. “We're
asking all resident students to
work together."
Aheron said that students
were "surprisingly calm” but
that they are now “coming to
terms with what happened."
She added that first-floor resi
dents have been “cooperative
and understanding.”
Aheron also said that the
administration has been very
helpful during the ordeal.
Facilities services plans to
provide boxes and tape for .stu
dents who have to move.
Strickland noted that everyone
on campus is “extremely
proud" that all Heilman resi
dents got out of the building in
a timely manner ‘That’s what
those fire drills are all about,"
he said.
Gleason added, ‘This will be
a real opportunity for Meredith
students to assist and support
one another."
