I do Business speaker series continues Gray Ligon Professor of Ouisness Alex Sink, president of NationsBank Florida, was the distinguished business speaker for the spring of 2000 on Thurs day, Apr, 6 in Kresge Auditori um. Sink discussed how lo build a career in the twenty-first century. She emphasized the concept of balance between one’s personal and professional lives and encouraged MBA stu- dents to develop expertise in three areas, communication and social skills, leadership skills and technical skills. She encouraged all students to develop their leadership skills trough volunteering in some capacity within their neighborhoods. She serves on many boards and believes that Submitting to the Herald: Submissions must be received by 1 p.m on the Monday before Wednesday’s publication. Submissions can be brought to 208 Cate Center. Submissions include letters to the editor, press releases and feature articles. this is one of the best ways to develop leadership abilities.. In hiring of college graduates, she said that she prefers candidates with communication and lead ership skills because the bank can teach them the technical skills much easier than the first two types of expertise. The graduate students asked many questions about how to achieve balance in one’s life, and Sink provided down-to- earth answers in a relaxed speaking style. Sink was raised on a tobacco farm near Mt. Airy and is a 1969 graduate of Wake Forest University with a degree in mathematics. Her mother and sister received music degrees from Meredith. During the past 26 years, she has held 16 differ ent positions with Nations Bank, which is in the process of changing its name to Bank of America- She resides in Tampa and commutes to Jacksonville. This spring marked the first time that a company has spon sored the Distinguished Busi ness Speaker Series. Bob Luddy, president of Captive- Air services of Youngsville, provided funding for this speaker. Jenny Costa Staff Writer Maybe you have seen the signs or shirts around campus asking. "Do you agree with Mike?” So what is it all about? Who is Mike and with what does he agree? It is really quite simple. "Do you agree with Mike” is a campaign for Christ that was started by a student at N.C. State. Mike is a senior at N.C. State studying religion and he wanted to make it easier for students to share their faith so he came up with this idea. He rallied faith based organi zations and got Christian stu dents to plaster N.C. State and surrounding campuses with fly ers and sidewalk chalk, they painted the free expression tun nel and designed shirts asking the question. Of course, this did generate a lot of questions and other stu dents began asking the same what this Mike stuff was all about. Mike, like myself, believes that Jesus Christ came to save us all from sin; He is our redeemer. It is through Him by which we are saved. We are not perfect so God sent His only son to die for us that we may be forgiven and receive everlasting life. Often people are hesitant about sharing their religious beliefs for fear of ridicule or rejection or (hat maybe they won’t be able to live up to their own standards, but 1 do not think I am setting any unattain able standards by calling myself a Christian. We all fall short. It is often said, "if you don’t stand for something you'll fall for anything.” 1 just want everyone to have the same peace that I do know ing that God is in control of my life. 1 believe that God sees all people equally and that we are all called according to His pur pose. He wants the very best for each and every person He has created. I am so glad that I serve a gracious and forgiving God, and 1 am not ashamed let the world know. So. do you agree with Mike?
