Meredith Herald April 25, 2001 Campus Leadership Colorful leadership honored with dinner Tanesha Williams Staff Wilier Belk Dining Hall was full of color on Monday evening as Meredith students celebrated the end of the school year and acknowledged their fellow stu dents for uncommon leader ship. The annual Student Activi ties and Leadership Develop ment Banquet was held at 6:30 p.m. for students who were involved in leadership activi ties and responsibilities during the 2000-01 school year. TTie theme of this year's banquet was “Live and Lead in Color”. The evening began when Nikki Bisseil, associate direc tor of the Office of Student Activities and Leadership Development, gave opening remarks followed by the din ner. Dr Jean Jackson, vice presi dent for Student Development, gave her brief remarks after dinner about leading in color. The guest speaker for the evening was Susan Mead, a representative of East Carolina University. Mead gave a recipe for leading that included respect, observing, thinking, delegating, preparation, com munication. and acknowledg ment. Cheryl Jenkins, director of Student Activities, gave the closing remarks. Student Life Chair and Chief Student Adviser Heather Spell, senior, said she thought the evening reflected her year of leadership. “I’ve enjoyed the leadership this year. I’ve had an opportu nity to work with many lead ers,” noted Spell. Student Adviser Dori White, sophomore, is proud of all the leaders this year. “It’s great that all the leaders are staying strong until the end of the year.” said White. The attendance for the evening included not only students but also many members of the faculty. Ann Gleason, dean of Students, said she, too. was impressed by the evening. “It was inspiring to be in the same room with so many enthusi astic, capable student leaders. The leader ship banquet is one of my favorite annual events,” commented Gleason. These Meredith student leaders enjoy an end-of-the-year thank you for their hard work.
