New faculty in math and
business departments

Several new teachers have
entered the math and business
departments this year.
They are ihe freshmen of the
faculty staff and are becoming
familiar with Meredith’s cam
pus just like ihe class of 2005.
Professor Cammey Cole
joins the math department
directly out of graduate school
at North Carolina State Univer
sity (NCSU).
She received her undergrad
uate degree from Duke Univer
sity and has a background in
mathematics and computer sci
ence.
Since she had spent so many
years in school in the Triangle,
Cole Ihought it would be nice
to stay in the area to work.
Therefore, that is where
Meredith College came into
her career picture.
“It’s really nice to be going
to a place where the people
seem like they enjoy working
there,” she said.
Currently, Cole is teaching
several math courses, including
Calculus II and Exploring with
Math.
Many of her students know
that her favorite way to teach is
through real world applica
tions.
“I like trying to excite peo
ple about the subject,” she said.
Also coming directly from
graduate school at NCSU is
Professor Zulah E>enaux, who
joins the Meredith business
faculty.
Denaux teaches economics
courses such as Aggregate
Economic Analysis and Con
sumer Economics.
Denaux is originally from
Ankara, Turkey, but she came
to the United States in 1994.
Although this is the first time
she has taught at the MBA
level, she did teach some class
es at NCSU this past spring and
summer.
Although she has not been at
Meredith for long, she has
noticed a difference between
Meredith students and the other
students she taught previously.
“They [Meredith students]
are more eager to leani,” said
Denaux.
Those students who take
E>enaux’s classes know that her
classes are difficult but benefi
cial in the end.

Another new addition to the
business department is Dr.
Carol Soroos.
Having lived in Raleigh for
the past 3! years, Soroos has
known of Meredith College for
most of her life.
She received her undergrad
uate degree from Carlton Col
lege in Minnesota and went on
to graduate school at North
western and Duke Universities.
Soroos taught at Campbell
University for the past six
years and decided to come to
Meredith for its convenience
and reputation.
“I’m very impressed with
how highly motivated the stu
dents are,” said Soroos.
In her classes, she likes to
have an interactive environ
ment where her students partic
ipate in many discussions.
“I try very hard to present
students with the kinds of chal
lenges in class and in the work
outside of class that will pre
pare them for doing work out
side in the real business
world,” she said.
Soroos has also taught over
seas. She received several Ful-
bright grants where she was
able to teach in Russia and
Kazakstan, a part of the former
Soviet Republic.
She is focused on intema-
tional relationships and recom
mends that her students study
abroad.
“I always have taught a lot
about cross-cultural differ
ences. Understanding those
things and being able to adapt
to them are very important and
absolutely essential to succeed
ing in the business world out
side of one’s country and cul
ture,” she explained.
