Facility Services
moves into new
building
JONi Smith
Managing Editor
The face of Meredith Col
lege is changing. Constmction
workers and equipment can be
seen all across campus waking
on the much-needed Chiller,
the new commuter parking lot
and the state-of-the-art math
and science building.
These are projects students
have heard about over the past
couple of months, but these are
not the only areas of campus
that are getting face-lifts.
Facilities Services, the office
who administrates repairs and
maintenance jobs on campus,
moved into its new quarters
after many delays of its con
struction last week.
The new building, which is
located in front of Wade
Avenue and behind Poteat Res
idence Hall and Belk Dining
Hall, allows the staff of Facili
ties Services more room to get
their jobs done.
“I’m glad the construction
over there is fmished. It was
confusing to try find Facilities
Services while the construction
was going on,” said sophomore
Ashley Wrenn. “[Before] I
always went to Campus Securi
ty’s office instead.”
The construction took sever
al months to complete, and the
completion dale was moved
several times due to bad weath
er.
Also, there are several
adminstrative changes in Facil
ity Services.
Tom Sherry is the new
Director of Operations for the
department.
He oversees planning and
budgeting for Facilities Ser
vices as well as supervising
other employees in mainte
nance, housekeeping, grounds
and project administration.
Due to the number of con
struction projects in progress
on campus, Greg Ahrendsen
has been named Project Man
ager.
Ahrendsen will be working
. with the engineers, architects,
contractors and personnel from
Meredith to get these projects
completed smoothly and effi
ciently.
David Pace, who has
extentsive training in electrical
and plumbing systems and
HVAC systems, has Joined the
Meredith community to take
the position as Maintenance
Manager.
Campus Security moved
into the space that was left
vacant by Facilities Services.
