2 Campus News CHILLER continued from page one Science building. The existing Chiller, was expected to be turned'back on by this weelc but has not l?een turned on yet. Currently. the entire catnpus-'With the exception of a few buildings-such as Gaddy-Hamrick, Facilities Services, the Alumnae House and a few individual offices with small window air conditioning units—is without air conditioning- Sherry said that the primary focus of the Chiller plant pro ject has shifted to getting the existing Chiller back on-line so the campus will have air conditioning. According to Sherry, Facili ties Services has purchased fans that were placed in some of the buildings yesterday. He added that window air conditioning units were installed in some of the computer labs in Joyner Hall and Ledford Hall because these rooms get hotter than the classrooms. A temporary Chiller unit was installed to cool Ledford Hall this past weekend because over one hundred people were attending the Carolinas Psychology Conference in the building. Sherry said that the temporary Chiller unit will be removed by tomorrow or Fri day, April 19. He also added that Facili ties Services plans to install a temporary Chiller unit to cool Belk Dining Hall because it gets extremely hot due to the heat circulating in the kitchen. This temporary unit was scheduled to be installed yesterday, and it will remain until the existing Chiller is functioning. According to Sherry, the delays thus far will not affect the completion of the Chiller plant upgrade. The projected date for completing the entire Chiller plant renovation is the middle to the end of May. According to Sherry, the new Mathematics and Science building needs air condition ing in June, and he does not anticipate any problems completing the upgrade in time. In the meantime, Sherry suggested that students turn off unnecessary lights in order to reduce temperatures in the dorm rooms, open windows and turn off computers. Meanwhile, other students are finding their own ways to avoid the heat. One group of Meredith sophomores took sleeping bags and a battery-operated alarm clock and pitched a tent on the quad last night Amanda Beasley, Becca Perkinson, Sarah Olson and Holly McGhin could not sleep in their dorm rooms. “We were miserably hot," said Holly McGhin, who along with her fellow campers had thought about stringing up a hammock outside or sleep ing in the stairwell prior to pitching the tent. “It was a lot cooler [out side], she said. “We woke up cold.” McGhin said that the only reason she and the other women took the tent down the next morning was because lawn care personnel began mowing the lawn. “We were laughing," said McGhin, “because we were roughing it fifteen feet from running water.” McGhin and the other women plan to camp outside until the Chiller is back online. for the Herald’s Graduation Issue May 8 Come stay with us! 8 Exciting New Locations University Woods at Centennial University Woods 3020-104 Centennial Woods Dr. Model Open Daily 11-6 High Speed Intemet New 3 & 4 Bedroom Condos Private bedfoom/batb Walkin closets Sunroom Individual Leases Available Rents; 4 bedroom; *325/bedroom 3 bedroom: *350/bedroom Four locations near NCSU, Peace and Meredith College Gorman Street Village Gorman Street Village 1609 Gorman St. High Speed Intemet Brand New 3-bedroom condos Private bedroom^ath suites Walkin closets Utilities included Individual Leases Available Rents Centennial Ridge: *387/bedroom Gorman St. Village: *399/bedroom Two locations near NCSU, Peace and Meredith College r\ the • Preiss company XetMtraM h KmI EtUU 142 Mine Lake Court •Raleigh, NC 27615 919) 870-5080 »Fax (919) 870-5026 Toll Free (800) 598-1293 Website www.tpco.com •email condos@tpco.com www.univ6rsitycondos.com
