LADONNA LOGIJE News Editor For the past month, the campus has been full of messages on posters and sidewalks about whom freshmen should vote for. Every office for the fresh men class student govern ment, from president to stu dent life representatives, is now filled with very deter mined young women. Ebony Barron was elected president of the class of 2006. “My goal for this class is for us to become one,” she said. “We have so much to offer to each other, and I believe this class has the potential to be one of the best.” The new class vice-presi dent is .lamie Conway. She decided to run for office because she wanted an opportunity to meet her fel low classmates and to get involved in the student body. She wanted everyone to know she wants to hear about students’ concerns. Conway said, " I want to truly make a difference in the class of 2006. I need your input, Angels!" Kelly Beth Smith is the class secretary. Smith had no intentions of running for a position, but said," Once I saw how involved and enthusiastic the women of Student Government are at Meredith, I was hooked!" She wanted to ensure the freshmen her "organization skills, creativity, and hard- work ethic should fit the position nicely." The class treasurer is Julie Stansbury. "1 want the fresh men class to be able to get to know each other well and have f\m," Stansbury said. "I want us to have one another for support through out the next three years." Class historian is was decided in a run-off last week and Erica Edwards was the winner. The class Comhuskin' co chairs are Sarah Fargione and Charlotte Morris. Fargione said she enjoys dancing and has been a cap tain of her dance team and and has taught four and five-year-olds ballet classes. Morris enjoys cheerleading and sailing. Both are excited about their new positions. "1 love how Meredith has so many traditions," Morris said. "So, of course, I wanted to be a part of the best tradition of all." Continued on Page 8 Meredith families arrive Sunday for 26th Annual Family Day JONI SMITH Editor-in-Chief Families from across the countty were on campus Sunday for Family Day. September 22 marked the 36th time Family Day has been held on campus. This year’s theme was “Meredith Connection” and focused on the bonds students make at Meredith with other students as well as with faculty and staff. Catherine Rideout ‘93, director of alumnae and parent relations, remarked that Family Day is always a fun event that parents, siblings, grandparents and friends enjoy attending. Rideout said this year’s event had been in .the, planning process since the beginning of the summer. She worked with Alyson Colwell-Waber, associate dean for academic Affairs, Cheryl Jenkins, director of student activities and lead ership development, Ann Gleason, dean of students, as well staff members within the Office of Institutional Advancement on the planning and devel opment of Family Day. “It's my hope that par ents left on Sunday feel ing like they are an important part of the Meredith family. Rideout said. “Even though they are not here with their daughter's on a daily basis, I want them to feel connected to Meredith in every way. I also want them to take pride in the education their daughters are receiving while they're here at Meredith and recognize the leaders they ar^becoming.” Many events took place throughout the day, beginning with a family worship service at 9 a.m..
