Meredith Community gets “A Taste of Research” The Undersraduate Research Prosram culminated its summer 2002 program Thursday night by showcasing work the summer produced. TIFFANY ADAMS Staff Writer Meredith College's Undergraduate Research Program provides opportu nities for students to collab orate with a faculty member in a particular field of study. This summer, Meredith pro fessors teamed up with stu dents who have similar research interests. "A Taste of Research," which was held last Thursday, show cased their achievements thus far. Meredith’s Undeigraduate Research Program coordi nated this event so the Meredith community could learn about the research that Meredith students and fac ulty are conducting. The projects showcased on Thursday represented Meredith's educational diversity. Research from several departments at Meredith was presented at the event. One project showcased was Dr. Garry Walton and Lori Anderson’s research about Shakespeare on film. Some other exhibits includ ed Dr. Janet Nelson and Erika Snitzer’s progress on t h e i r| research! ed at the event include English, psychology, poli tics, education, economics and history in addition to those from the biology and chemistry departments. their display, first round data have been collected and are currently undergo ing analysis. The departments represent- Dr. Cynthia Edwards and Lisa Hahne teamed up to research "Leadership and Social Structure amojig College Women." According to the handout at 2003. Third-round data will be collected following spring break. This project is one of many ongoing projects cur rently underway in the Undergraduate Research Program. Dr. Rhonda Zingraff, Undergraduate Research Program'^irector, stresses the importance of all areas of study being active in the program. She said the pro gram seeks to "provide an opportunity for all stu dents." Zingraff many students tend to automatically assume that research is for graduate level study, but the Undergraduate Research Program "has fvnds for projects at the edge of new developments.’* Zingraff said the program is designed to "generate opportunities for students to take the next step in a par ticular field through collab orative projects."
