4 CAMPUS NEWS Campus Faces: Bill Brown JESSIE WILLSON Staff Reporter Have you ever been in Jones Auditorium? If you have, you know you’ve heard him coming down the hall. That jingle of keys can only belong to Bill Brown, technical coordina tor and production supervi sor at Meredith. Always on the go, always getting something done. Brown runs the ^ow. But he took the time to show us what lies behind-the-scenes for this man. Name: Bill Brown Hometown: Angola, NY Education: Studied theatre at UNC-G How he fouod bis calling: Brown said when he was in the fifth grade, the chorus was doing "Sleigh Ride." He noticed the blue lights that were flashing on the stage and he was intrigued. He asked his teacher if he could adjust and alter the lights, thus beginning his long-standing passion for lighting design at an early age. Years at Meredith: eight Why he is at Meredith: "I love to teach," Brown said. Best advice ever received: "Don't be afraid to fail or to admit failure; 4t's all a part of learning." Favorite Movie: The Matrix Favorite Book: The Color Purple - "I read it before it was made into a movie," Brown added. Favorite genre of books: Pop-up Favorite play he's- worked: Les Miserables: The School Edition. Brown said, "You have to go see it." Dream Job: "I'm in it," Brown said. "I love work ing with people, and I enjoy theatre, so I have both working here." Brown said he thought it was important for people to constantly work their way up and not be afraid to move into new job atmos pheres because change is a good thing. In his case, the atre is a constantly chang ing medium, so there's no need to walk away. Favorite music: all kinds Favorite Color: Black, like a true "techie" Personal acting experi ence: Brown has performed before, but he knows he doesn't have the passion needed to be on stage for a living. "I have a healthy respect for theatre," Brown said. "I've done the research on it, but I don't have the desire to do it."
