2 CAMPUS NEWS Puzzle of Light to radiate at Meredith Multimedia group to stage two perform ances this weekend at Meredtth. JENNA AUSTIN Staff Reporter Puzzle of Light, an artis tic trio that constructs and plays "sound sculptures," will be performing in tiie Meredith amphitheatre this Friday at 10 a.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m. Two members of Puzzle of Light, sculptor and musician Michael Bashaw and his wife, Sandy Kreitzer, have been visiting classes at Meredith as artists-in-residency since March 23. Bashaw has also begun constructing the group's latest sound sculp> ture in front of Jones Auditorium (in preparation for this weekend's perform ances). Each of the members plays a number of instru ments, often improvising, but afways blending, their talents. B^haw sings and plays flute, harmonica, bal- afons and kalimbas. The group takes its name from a temporary sculptural installation that Bashaw built for a school in Ohio. Kreitzer said the name "has a rather cosmic meaning for us - if you think about the universe being a puzzle of light." "We would like the stu dents to take away an awareness of artistic exper imentation, and an appreci ation of the rich cultural diversity of our world," Kreitzer said. "We love the connection made between musicians and audience, and between audience members which takes place at the performance, as well as the connection between musicians, especially in improvisation, which is a big part of what we do. And we love the transfor mational aspect of creating a big performance/pageant, as we will be doing here at Meredith." The Puzzle of Light artists said they "always aspire to create perform ances which uplift the spir it, inform the intellect, delight the senses, and cel ebrate the complexity and diversity of life." The artists use many different instruments from across the globe to create a new sound that you can’t hear from radio or television. Puzzle of Light has per formed over 40 times, including one performance at Clark State Community College and at the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra at Memorial Hall in Dayton, Ohio.
