While not all Meredith students experi ence this living environ ment, it is a common bond for many students. The Residence Hali Jenna’s JENNA HOTTLE Advertising Manager Hey, hey freshmen, out- of-towners, transfer stu dents and all you inquiring minds; are you looking for the hot spots in Raleigh? If you are, this is the article for you. The best places to go in Raleigh have been divided into three sections: cheap food, hot clubs, and attrac tions. Everybody knows what it is like to be bored on the weekend and have nothing to do, and we all know that being in college means no money. Don’t lose hope there are plenty of places in Raleigh to go for under $5. Raleigh offers every thing from cheap Chinese food to Snoopy's world famous hotdogs. Need a place to go with your sig nificant other for a cheap date? How about a $1.50 Association (RHA) and the Residence Assistants (RA’s) work hard to pro vide a living environment that appeals to all students. Hall meetings, commu nity building activities and residence hall socials pro vide opportunities for cam pus residents to build rela> tionships. RA's have several duties that include managing day- to-day events that concern individual residence halls. In addition, the RHA works to provide an all>inclusive atmosphere for all resi dences. The piupose of RHA, as stated in the handbook, is "... to provide a living and learning enviroiunent in the in Raleigh movie? Now that's cheap. Or how about those lonely Thursday nights when you are so bored and need a place to just go out and have fun. In most clubs every Thursday night is college night. For all those under 21, this is the place for you. Most of these places are on Hillsborough Street or are less than 10 miles from campus. Here are the hot spots in Raleigh: Restaurants 'Beansprout - Chinese food (for $4.95 you get a meat, rice, soup and an eggroll), Hillsborough Street •Gumby's Pizza (pokey sticks $7.99 for a medium) Tuesday nights, buy one get one free, Hillsborough Street ‘Snoopy's - Hot dogs (two hotdogs, French fries and a residence halis where each student is able to develop as a well-rounded individ ual and as a contributing member of the communi ty." RHA is a setting where students can contribute ideas and express concerns. To become a member of RHA one must simply live on campus. All students are invited and encouraged to attend regularly scheduled RHA meetings every other Friday morning according to the schedule in the stu> dent handbook. The executive board of the RHA consists of the Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Clerk, and six Residence Hall drink for under $5), Hillsborough Street •El Rodeo - Mexican (vari ous combinations for under $5), Glenwood Ave. Clubs -Jlliian’s - Thursday night is college night. West Street •Tbe Cantina - Thursday night is college night, Hillsborough Street (most clubs in Raleigh have Thursday night college night, cover charge for 20 and under, over 21 ladies free before 9 pm) Movie Theaters 'Regal Cinemas • (current ly released movies, student discount $6.25), several locations in Raleigh ‘Blue Ridge Cinemas - ($1.50 movies, recently released movies. Blue Ridge Road Presidents. These leaders work diligently along with student input to create a poshive living experience in the residence halls. The Residence Hall Association is a vital com ponent of Meredith College because of it’s direct con nection to residence stu dents. The participation of all residents in RHA will help prevent possible disrup tions, such as chaotic living conditions and dysfunction al halls. RHA invites all residents to participate in meetings and help build a strong conununity of Meredith residents. The next RHA meeting is scheduled for Friday, August 29 at 10 a.m. in Harris 106. For future meetings, refer to the stu dent activities handbook. Students who wish to attend will have an oppor- tunity to express and dis cuss residence hall con cerns. Guide to Having Fun Student Admissions Representatives The Admissions Office has named the following students as Student Admissions Representatives. These students will help the Admissions Office on a w/eekly basis giving tours to prospective students and their families. They will also help in recruitment efforts on campus by serving on student panels and giving tours during the College's special events.
