6 CAMPUS PERSPECTIVE Book shows you how to Rock Your World Christian author’s book givos tips on how to improve your community^ school, and tho rest of the world. NINA BORUM Staff Writer How can you make a difference? This is the question that Susan Shellengberger attempts to answer in her book Rock Your World. She feels that her ideas are very relevant and applicable to teens and young adults because she is the editor of the pQpuIar girls magazine Brio, a high school teacher, youth pastor and cohost of Life on the Edge, a national Focus on the Family radio program. Susan Shellengbergers' book is definitely written from a Christian perspec tive, but no matter what backgroimd you come from, the ideas in this book are positive and useful. Rock Your World focuses on the mission field, but also gives information and encouragement to those who want to start a mission in their own countries and, more specifically, in their own towns. This book includes real life stories from people who have gone the extra mile in their towns and who have served on mission trips. These sto ries reveal the impact that rocking your world can have on others. Throughout the book, Shellengberger dedicates chapters to different sub jects such as rocking your school, community, and other countries. She even includes contact informa tion for organizations that will support teens in their endeavors. She also includes informative pages that list environmental facts and student rights on cam pus. The author used many statistics and facts, which were backed up by several reliable books. Although much information is com mon knowledge for some readers, for others it will be quite eye opening. For example, in her sec tion on "Tips for managing your mealtime" she writes, "Eat more veggies, they are easier for the food chain to produce than meat and are a better use of resources," and the fact that "the cans thrown away each year by Americans would wrap around the earths equator 164 times!" Tidbits of information like this taken seriously could really make a difference in our world today. If one is interested in being a missionary or tak ing a short-term mission trip, this book gives perti nent information about writing letters for support and fmding organizations who offer missionary opportunities. This book also gives practical exam ples of things that people can do in their communities for a worthy cause. According to Rebecca St. James, a well-known Christian music artist, in this book "Susie has cre atively called our genera tion to action. This book is a practical tool we can use to truly make a difference." Throughout the book, Shellengbei^er ui^es us to give ourselves entirely and to be willing to make changes in our neighbor hood and in our world. After encouraging and informing the reader of ways and reasons to make changes, she concludes with the question, "Are you willing to take a chance and rock your world?"
