g CAMrUS OPINION Letters to the Editor with them or not. My ques* tion to you is if you park a few spots away from your assigned spot, why don't you just move down those few spaces to your assigned spot to begin with? If you choose to do the crime, be prepared to pay the fme! If right and wrong were determined by conven ience, then maybe the stu dent body should demand valet parking. This would truly bring an end to the horrendously stressful park ing conditions imposed on Meredith students. Dear Editor, I have to say that after I began reading the opinion piece on parking in the September 17th issue, I started to laugh. Then as I moved on, I became angry. The comment that "there is no place on campus that is safe to park," is completely contradictory. Every assigned parking space is safe and is assigned specifi cally for that reason. The safe place for a commuter to park is in the commuter parking lot! I have been a commuter for two years and I have yet to have any problems finding a parking space. I refuse to complain about parking when I have fnends who attend NC State and have many more Dear Editor: The fme amounts for tickets are absurd. While I agree that we should be fmed for breaking the rules, I do not think there is any need for the excessive amounts of the tickets. I recently received a parking ticket because 1 parked in the doctor’s space outside of Tech Services. I did not know that this was the doc tor’s space because the paint specifying whose space it was was covered up. I had to take my printer and my computer to Tech Services to be fixed and since I had problems with parking than we have at Meredith. Now, they have reason to com plain. If you only have to leave 20 minutes early from honie to make it to class on time, you are lucky. A fiiend of mine that attends State has to leave up to an hour early to reach class on time and has to be on campus 20 minutes before class starts just to walk across campus to get to that class. At ECU, there is virtually no parking. I attended ECU myself for a short time and discovered that even though I was on the bus line, 1 had to leave my apartment, which was only five miles away from campus, at least 45 minutes early to be in class on time. Dealing with parking is to run an errand, I decided to just drive over there. I did not know it was the doctor’s space and it was tiie only space open. I there for 15 minutes and received a $50 parking ticket. I think this is crazy! There are a lot of girls on this campus who cannot afford $50. A $15 or $20 ticket is understandable. But a $50 ticket? Campus police needs to give us a break and lower the fmes. Meredith Robertson Class of 2005 a part of college life just like exams and appltca- tions-you have to deal with it and should worry about things that are more perti nent and truly have an impact on your time in col lege. I wish my major con cern was due only to how far I had to walk to class. Meredith has made this part of college a lot easier for us commuters to endure by having such ample parking. It is rare for colleges to have such parking as Meredith has. Take responsibility for your actions. It is not the college's responsibility to ensure that you leave home on time to make it to class. That is our responsibility as students. We loiow where we should park and it is our responsibility to make plans to ensure we are on time. I hate to sound cliche but if everyone decided to park in those unused park ing spaces that was referred to, then the people that are assigned to Aose spaces will be out of luck and they will have to walk. And the answer to the question of whether it is "worth it to make us pay $25 more because we are parked a few spaces down from our assigned one," is yes, it is worfli it. It is called the law. Would you park in a handicapped spot when you go to the mall? No. Meredith is an institu tion just like any other where there are rules and regulations that we must follow: whether you agree TTie Herafd welcomes let ters to the editor.
