2 CAMPUS NEWS Meredith volleyball pre pares for tournament AUTUMN METZGER Staff Writer Meredith Volleyball has had a long break since the last game. The team played Louisburg at home on October 8. They beat Louisburg to end on a good note before Fall Break. The Volleyball Angels did not play last week; instead they continued to practice and prepare for the upcoming senior night against Salem College, Methodist College and the Women's College tourna ment. The team has faced Salem College before, end ing in victory each time. In the upcoming game the team will be honormg two senior players, Meredith Carr and Swaii Sonko. Both students are starters, team captains and true leaders. The Women's College tournament is held every year between southern women's colleges. This year it is being held in Virginia at Randolph Macon Women’s College. Last year, the Angels were the reigning champions, and this year there is a title to maintain. The Volleyball team currently has a win ning record of 14-5 overall. Basketball began its sea son at Meredith recently. The Meredith Basketball team lost a lot of its height last year to graduating sen iors but they have strong guards and look forward to a successful season. Volleyball will finish its season at the beginning of November, the same time that basketball begins. Come out and support the Volleyball team as they fm- ish their season, and the basketball team as they begin theirs. a Theater cont The second conference, NCTC Annual Theatre Gathering 2003, which is not exclusive to college and university theater depart ments, but includes com munis and high school theater companies, used to be held on a separate week end until last year, accord ing to Meredith faculty member and Extra Theatre Company Adviser, Christa Devitt. Devitt, along with col league Steven Roten, will be presenting workshops during the conference. Devitt's topic is "Service Learning in the Theatre Classroom.'’ "I teach two theater classes that incorporate Service Learning here at Meredith. Service Learning is big right now, but few people know how to incor porate it into a theater classroom. That is what this workshop will be about," said Oevitt. Devitt's workshop will be on Saturday, November 1 at 10:15 a.m. Roten will be speaking about auditioning profes sionally which coincides with acting screenings per formed by the Southeastern Theatre Conference, Inc., which is based in Greensboro, NC. Terry Milner, director of NCTC, is looking forward to this year's conference, because Ben Cameron, Executive Director of Theatre Communications Group in New York City, will serve as the keynote speaker for the conference on Sunday, November 2.
