4 CAMPUS FEA TURES Undergraduate Research Program announces funded projects and pre sentations, Fall 2003 RHONDA ZINGRAFF Director of Undergraduate Research Program Kristin Siha, Merrily Strickland, Katherine Weaver Mid Allison Harmon presented their research at the SECAC Tri- State Sculptors Conference on October 30-November 1 in Raleigh. They are woric- ing on various research projects with Dr. Beth Mulvaney in the Meredith Art Department. Tamar Harris was fund ed through a summer stipend project to travel to the Phyllis Kind Gallery in New York to coordinate this amazing sculptural exhibition on campus this fall. Her project mentor is Beth Mulvaney. Because the sculptures have been so wonderful around Meredith, her work is time ly news. Merrily Strickland received a small grant for her thesis conceming "Icon Imagery in the Book of Kells" as part of her research in the Art Department. Jessica Tolbert received a grant to study'The Effects of Heat on Lactic Acid Accumulation in Trained Athletes" with Dr. Chris Eschbach in the Health and Physical Education Department. Erika Snitzer received a grant for her research in the Psychology Department on a project titled "Spatial Frequency, Visual Fields and their roles in the recog nition of emotional facial expressions." Kara Duckett has been selected to present a poster at the Joint Mathematics Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. She is working with Dr. Timothy Hendrix and their project title is "Close Packing Polyhedra- Three Dimensional Tessellations". Student researchers Lindsey Jones, Karen Bobinyec, Margaret Cooney, Rebecca Lee, Sarah Mai^aret Tulloss, Emily Collins, Kelly Friend, Jackie Neustel, Jessica Willson, Sarah Owen, Lyndsey Thompson, Courtney Crute, Ashley Williams, Megan Register, Rose Hartfield, Jenee Ciccarelli and Kelly Johnson will apply their research on the Russian Federation at the Southern Regional Model United Nations Conference to be held on November 20-22 in Atlanta, Georgia. Their faculty sponsors are Dr. Jim Piazza and Dr. Michael Novak of the History and Politics Deparment. OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD Pick up your form at the Campus Ministry Office!
