H. Hill Library at NCSU JEAN PORTER Contributing Writer As many of you know, Meredith College and North Carolina State University (NCSU) are members of a local consortium called the Cooperating Raleigh Colleges (CRC). This agreement allows stu dents and faculty to borrow materials from other CRC libraries directly without going through interlibrary loan. Students need a form from the library signed by a librarian in order to borrow books from NCSU. These procedures remain unchanged. In addition to bor rowing books, you might need to use an online database or access an online journal at the NCState library that the Campbell Library does not have. You must use the com puters in one of the NCSU libraries to search for the informa tion. A change in poli cy now restricts access to most of the comput ers in the D. H. Hill Library only to those people with an NCSU Meredith’s Carlyle Campbell Library. ID or an NCSU borrow ing card. Six computers have been set aside for use by non-affiliated people, so you may not always be able to get on to a computer immedi ately when you arrive. To help you with this new policy, here is some information that might be useful. The time limit for use of the computer is 30 minutes. There are no sign-up sheets. You must just wait in line for the next available computer. Staff at the reference desk give passwords for access. After 30 min utes online, the comput er will automatically log you out whether you are finished with your research or not. If you need to continue your search, you will need to wait for the next avail able computer. However, if no one is waiting you may log back in (with a new password), but you will need to reconstruct your search, so be sure to keep notes on your search terms. The least busy times for the guest computers are Friday evening, especially between 5-6pm, and early mornings. Access to the D. H. Hill Library building is also restricted for out side users. No unaffili- ated users are allowed photo by Tiffany Adams into the building after 10 pm. At 10 pm, secu rity officers make ran dom sweeps of the building asking for NCSU identification. Those without an NCSU ID will be asked to leave. Because of these restrictions, we recbm- mend that you come to the Campbell Library and ask a librarian for assistance before going over to the NCSU Libraries. There may be resources available here that you have not discovered yet. Come to the Information Desk in the library for assis tance or call the library at 760-8095.
