March 24,2004 CAMPUS NEWS WORLD NEWS Antiwar Protesters Around the World Speak Up KATIE O’NEAL Staff Writer Protestors appear to be frustrated over a number of aspects sur rounding the war in Iraq. Many believe US intervention has not helped improve the way of life for Iraqis. Iraqis themselves seem to be split about their feelings on the war in Iraq. Some feel that life has improved since the war, while others feel even more fearful due to the increased bombings and guerilla attacks. Protestors have also expressed anger over the fact that the US government has failed to locate any weapons of mass destruc tion in Iraq. Many seem to feel to con fused and even misled over the initial purpose of the war. Protests took place from Asia to Europe to the United States. Recently, how ever, the most anger over the war has taken most likely has to do place in Spain. The rea- with the recent train son for such emotion bombings in Madrid that took the lives of 202 peo ple. Many believe that Madrid's support of the war in Iraq triggered the fatal bombings. President Bush and his adminis tration have defended their actions in Iraq by remaining adamant that the capture of Saddam Hussein has made the world, as a whole, a more secure place. Members of the American army have also pointed to the positive aspects of the war in Iraq. Captain Todd McDonald, who suffered injuries dur ing a parachuting acci dent in Iraq, stated, "The appearance that we get in the media focuses on one or two people killed, when we are opening schools and people are giving us flowers." Despite progress made in Iraq, this past Saturday's protests proved, that thousands world wide remain opposed to the involvement in Iraq. CALLING ALL ANGELS!!! This year’s speaker for Disability Awareness Day 2004 will be Dr. Harriet Enzor. a wheelchair tennis star athlete! Her highest rankings by the US Tennis Association have been #1 for singles and doubles in North Carolina, the Southern Section and Nationally. She has been #12 Internacionally for singles. Harriet has been featured in several publications including Tennis Today, Tennis Pro, Tennis Teachers and Coaches, New Mobility and several area newspapers. Harriet has been an associate professor at Campbell University and a private practitioner for 12 years. Other work has included being a school counselor in elemen tary and high schools. She has been the recipient of several honors for both athletics and academics and has conducted sev eral professional and community presentationss. She is a vibrant speaker who has a creative balance of entertaining and educating. Please share rhis information with friends, students faculty and staff.
