CAMPUS OPINION
Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor:
I saw the posting on Thurs
day, October 28 on E-News
that Fahrenheit 9/11 would
playing at Meredith on Sun
day evening. 1 saw Fahren
heit 9/11. Michael Moore
has taken splicing, editing,
and manipulation of facts to
a higher art form. He even
suggested what President
Bush might have been think
ing when he heard about
the Trade Center attacks,
and his decision to invade
Iraq; and that thinking was
for his own selfish interests.
1 have heard many times
that people who second-
guess are usually wrong.
We have had controver
sial topics and-speakers on
campus many times, all in
the spirit of diversity and in
tellectual integrity. To pres
ent this anti-war, anti-Bush,
propaganda “documentary?”
at Meredith three days be
fore one of the most serious
elections in our nation’s his
tory, is, in my opinion, irre
sponsible. Meredith takes
great pains to foster a spirit
of acceptance and respect to
every individual. I think this
movie undermines that ini
tiative because, in my opin
ion, Fahrenheit 9/11 is also
racially and socio-economi-
cally divisive. I thought we
had a middle class in this
country, but I must be mis
taken. I guess there are only
two classes—the wealthy,
and the poor and disenfi'an-
chised. The negative cam
paigning by both Presidential
candidates in this election is
embarrassing and demoral
izing. I expected the Dem
ocratic Meredith students
to hold a higher standard.
