They found time to re lax with family between trips to Hawaii and Baltimore and are back in the swing of play ing twice or more a week now that the new semester has started. Meredith dropped both games in the Hoop and Surf Classic in Honolulu in mid- Dec, 75-48 to nationally ranked Mary Washington and 76-73 to Pacific (OR) College. Jtmior guard Au tumn Metzger hit 7-8 three pointers against Pacific for 23 points and finished the tournament with 37 points on 13-24 from the field. She was named the Association of Division III Independents Player of the Week for her effort. After two weeks off to en joy the holidays, the Angels came back to practice after New Years to prepare for the Villa Julie Classic in Balti more Jan 7th and 8th. They lost to Waynesboro (PA) Col lege 67-55 before routing Medgar Evers 78-43 to snap a three game losing streak. Nicole Hall scored 21 points while Amira Issa grabbed 15 rebounds in the first game. It was Laurie Mulqueeny’s turn to crash the boards in the second game as she hauled down 15 rebounds. Nicole Miller led four play ers in double figures with 16 points. The winning streak con tinued Saturday with a 75- 48 trashing of Wilson (PA) College. Mulqueeny again grabbed 15 rebounds to go along with 13 points. Issa also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 re bounds. “It was nice to play at home for the first time since November,” said Angles coach David Zinn. “We had a good crowd and picked up the pressure defensively. Our intensity on defense has been better since Ha waii. I’m proud of our team for showing improvement against a tough early sched ule. It should prepare us for the next six weeks.” Hall leads Meredith (3-6) with 19 points a game. Au tumn Metzger is next at 10.4. Issa leads the team with 8.6 rebounds per game while Mulqueeny averages 8.2 Meredith is at home Wednesday against Bennett College at 7 p.m, then trav el to Dandle, Va. to meet Averett on Thursday night. Spelman comes to Weather- spoon Gym on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game, followed by the Peace game Monday at 7 p.m. Meredith Community Revisits Sri Lanka Pboto courtesy of Lauren Stanfield While most students spent their winter break with family and Mends, a group from Meredith including 14 students, two alumnae, four faculty/staff members and three commu nity members, spent 13 days abroad mostly in Sri Lanka, with a brief stop in London. The group learned not only about the devastation that hit the area with the December 26, 2004 tsimami, but also about the history and culture of Sri Lanka.
