I think all of us, no mat ter how busy we are, can say “yes" to the question above. On behalf of the Student Government Association I am requesting that all of you take two minutes this week to vote during campus elec tions. MEGAN DONAHUE 2009 Freshman at Large On Tuesday, January 24, 2006, two campus-wide budget forums were held. At these forums, the proposed budget for the 2006-2007 ac ademic year were discussed. A great number of factors were considered for the bud get and once everything fell into place, the decision was made to increase tuition six percent for the upcoming year. Some may think that six percent is minimal, while others may be appalled by the increase; however the in crease is necessary. Tuition is going up across the board: for full-time un dergraduate students, the proposed tuition with room and board is $27,090. For part time and graduate stu dents, tuition is going up about thirty dollars per cred it hour. The main focus of the increase is to assist with salaries and benefits for employees and to continue the financial aid packaging strategy. Also included in the budget is the payment for student workers, money for sup plies in various departments, Could it be any easier? Your ballot will be emailed to you at 9:00am on Thursday morning and you'll have un til 5:00pm on Friday to cast your vote. Your ballot will contain information about all candidates and you'll be able to cast your vote online once you’re ready. It truly will take less than two min utes! If you have any techni cal questions, you can email elections@meredith.edu and funding for the library and for the arts. These expenses along with numerous “one time" expenditures are all included in the tuition hike. Although a tuition increase by $1200 for full-time un dergraduates is substantial, the financial aid packaging will remain strong and more renovations and improve ments will take place across campus. Student leaders at Mer edith play an integral role in the day to day affairs of our campus. Student leaders at tend meetings in which they are asked to represent the student voice, they create and modify student policies, and they plan the activities it hour. These expenses along with numerous “one time'’ and events we all enjoy so much. Elections provide all Meredith students with a chance to select their lead ers for the upcoming school year. Elections are so impor tant because they ensure that student leaders are chosen fairly and by the students themselves.
