Tributes cont. from pg. 3
Goodbye Mad Hatter,
you will be missed.
-Lori Brown, Associate
Professor, Department of
Sociology & Sx:ial Work
John Creagh was an
extremdy talented teach
er and actor. John saw all
of tiie world as a stage and
entertained us with his
uncanny impersonations
and seise of humor. He
had a big impact on his
students and colleagues
and he will be missed
immensely.
-Carla Ross, Associate
Professor, Department of
Communication
John Creagh was one
of three colleagues who
stood in a packed faculty
meeting in April 1994 to
urge passage of a reso
lution on sexual orienta
tion brought by Faculty
Council. The resolution
stated an idea that we take
almost for granted today,
that a person's sexual
orientation has no bear
ing on hiring, tenure or
promotion decisions for
faculty. John spoke force
fully and, as always, from
the heart. I will always
remember and be thank
ful for John's courageous
action. The resolution
passed.
-Brent A. Pitts
John was one of
ti\ose people with whom
you feel comfortable
immediately. He
was open and
inviting. He went out
of his way to make
me feel included in this
community, from the
first time I met him. We
tried to teach together
but our schedules always
seemed to conflict, so
I never had the oppor
tunity to participate in
one of his classes. His
untimely deatii reminds
me, more than I'd like it
to, that every moment
we have on earth is pre
cious and we should try
our very best to make
each opportunity count. I
often forget liiis as I
get caught up in my
own work. Relation-
diips are what life is all
about — it is my belief
that it is in the moments
where humans cormect
that we can see and know
the possibility of God. I
am grateful that I had a
few of those moments
with John, that in our
meeting, our ccmversing,
our ccttuiecting ~ there
was God.
-Margarita Suarez
Last year, I met John
for the first time. He had
submitted a request for
assistance with an
email issue. So, I went
to his office to offer my
assistance. The
issue was quickly
resolved. However,
I lingered for awhile
to discuss a few other
technology related topics.
Then our conversation
broadened to his favor
ite topic- his students. By
the time 1 left, a good 30
minutes later, I had
tears of laughter run
ning down my face.
That is how I will remem
ber John Creagh.

Peacefully, sleep comes
to a dear, beloved heart.
Quietiy, we understand
the time has come to
part.
Tenderly, the love shines
on...a never ending light.
Gratehilly, we feel its
warmth and say,
"Sweet dreams, good
night."
There is a scholarship
being offered in Dr. John
Creagh's memory. Me
morial gifts in memory
of Dr. John Creagh may
be made to The John
Creagh Memorial Schol
arship Fund at Meredith
College.
