Feb. 26 at 4:00 p.m. Meredith's Study Abroad Program is Nationally Ranked Chelsea McGlaughlin Staff Writer According to Meredith's study abroad web page, "Increasingly, all students are finding themselves graduating into a world that requires global understanding." This statement fits in with one of Vision 2010's biggest goals—global connectedness. Kevin Morrison, Betty Webb and Amanda Beasley lend their insight about Meredith's study abroad program and what the new ranking means for our campus. An important aspect of college is experiencing diversity, and participat ing in study abroad is one way to leam about new cultures. Meredith's study abroad program was recently ranked #24 in the Open Doors 2007 report of international education exchange among master's institu tions. In the 2005-2006 school year, 144 Meredith students participated in study abroad. The Institute of International Education publishes the yearly Open Doors report, and the report's results are based on a survey of about 3,000 U.S. colleges and uni versities. The report is based on surveys show ing the percentage of students participating in study abroad programs for academic credit. Kevin Morrison is Meredith's Associate Director of International Programs. He says the recent ranking "means increased visibility for Meredith as an institu tion with an increasing commitment to interna tional education." His duties include managing Meredith's summer study abroad programs, arrang ing pre-departure orien tations, advising students about studying abroad and helping international students with immigra tion. Betty Webb has hopes for future study abroad projects. She says, "I hope Ecuador will emerge as a site for a combination art and science program, and I would like to see an undergraduate business program in China soon." She also says it's not too laie to sign up for this summer's programs in the UK, Costa Rica, and Spain. "We would love to have 3-5 more quali fied students in each," she says. As Director of International Programs, Webb oversees all inter national programs and Abroad cont. on pg. 2 "Families of Abraham" Exhibit Comes to Meredith College Anna Britt Staff Writer Since February 3, Meredith College has hosted the "Families of Abraham" exhibit in the Frankie G.
