PANZAU, Continued from Page 3 Drunk, she was riding home from her job as a bartender, and she was in a car accident that left her without one arm and other more complicated problems. Last spring, a couple of Mer edith students and I were able to sit down and have dinner with her. I will never forget that night for as long as I live because it was re ally emotional hearing her story and watching her struggle not to cry was even harder. When I found out that she was coming back to Meredith to speak, 1 jumped at the chance to try and see her again, hoping that she could have some kind of impact on all the students on campus just with her story. Watching her speak again was difficult; it was hard to watch her tear up while telling her story. At times, you just want to jump up on stage and give her a hug and tell her it is alright, but you cannot because her life has never and will never be the same for as long has she lives. She is a really brave person to go around and share her story. Maybe if more students hear her story, they will think twice before they drink and drive. Meredith College was not the only stop that Panzau made while in North Carolina. She was able to reach out and touch some of the other local universities in the area. Because drinking and driving is on the rise everywhere through out the United States, many North Carolina colleges have tried to fig ure out what to do to stop this grow ing trend amongst college students. Duke University in recent years, has been trying to spearhead a cam paign to do something about this. I guess we will just have to wait and see what kind of solution they come up with, or we could come up with our own campaign to fight against drunk driving. ■ UPCOMING EVENTS Wednesday, Sept. 24 Soccer vs. NC Wesleyan Volleyball vs. Methodist Saturday, Sept. 27 Tennis @ ITAs Volleyball vs. Shenandoah @ Greensboro Cross Country @ Greensboro Cross Country Invitational Volleyball @ Greensboro Soccer vs. Christopher Newport Sunday, Sept. 28 Tennis @ ITAs Monday, Sept. 29 Tennis @ ITAs Tuesday, Sept. 30 Volleyball @ Peace Friday, Oct. 3 Volleyball vs. Mary Baldwin Volleyball @Averett
