What We V Wednesday 'Amv Hrubv r' ' Shopping: H&M at Crabtree - -When I found out that an H&M ■ store was opening at Crabtree I was at first a bit incredulous. There isn’t even one in Char lotte; how on Earth could Ra leigh be a big enough market? But regardless of my confusion, the H&M Raleigh store is open ing next week on Thursday, March iStli. Yes it’s over Spring Break, and most Meredith women will probably be out of Raleigh, but when you get back I definitely suggest heading over to Crabtree for a look-see. H&M has a great line of professional basics at low prices—think of the more upscale Forever 21 of ferings with a bit higher prices and much better quality. They also offer a great line of casual basics—tees, jeans, jackets, etc.— and are branching out into more unique lines that offer pieces for all the latest trends. So regard less of your fashion taste and budget, go to H&M just to see what they offer. If you’re like me you’ll probably end up lea\1ng ^ with armfuls of clothes. .'// Online Culture: Feed Your Soul, 'ree Art Project - I love iginal art—not necessarily the original prints or amthing, but just the fact that someone sat dovvm and created stimething to share with the world. However, on my college budget I often can’t afi’ord any of this art so I resort to saving jpegs on my computer and creating mini inspiration boards. Enter Feed Your Soul: the Free Art Project. Founded by blog-writer Jen Wallace, the goal of the project is to pro\ide free art from fan tastic artists of all mediums in order to brighten people's days. Each month, Jen posts Avork from 15-20 artists. You can open them as .pdfs, and they all print conveniently at letter paper size. New offerings are posted on the first, so make a date witli your self every month to visit indie- fixx.com/fecd_>'Our__soul, click on the “downloads” tab, and start redecorating your room to give you a new positive outlook on life. Vacations: Balbegno Castle - I’m pretty sure that every- child goes through a stage where they’re fascinated with castles. Whether it be the Beast’s castle in Beauty and the Beast, medi eval castles from ancient times, or the castle-like structure of Hogivarts, castles are just mes-. merizing places. And now that Kings, Dukes, and Lords are rather out of style, you can actu ally rent one and go on vaca tion there. The Balbegno Castle in Scotland is one such castle. Built in the 1560s, the Balbegno has six rooms that sleep up to 13 people, a large, private garden, a croquet lawn, and complete furnishings. Renting the castle also grants you exclusive rights to the surrounding grounds, v The huge Fasque Lake has three* islands and a row boat that can be used to explore. Also, an . > isolated beach is located only 20 minutes from tlie castle. ' In addition to all of this, they • even pr«»rtde wellies! A castle and cute rainboots, what more', could you want in a e acation? - For more details visit balhegnqr castle.co.uk. The pictures will make you fall in love with the . place, and at only $4500 a week it’s a steal! ...well maybe not, but a girl can dream, can’t she? r NCMA Brings Art Lectures to Meredith Kristen Gallagher, Staff Writer The North Carolina Mu seum of Art, though closed for up dating until April of this year, has brought four lectures on art and the new museum to campus. The lec tures are part of a nine-part series entitled “Museum on the Move” and are designed to get people in touch with the new features of the museum. NCMA is working with the Center for Women in the Arts here at Meredith, which is quite fitting because we are so closely . linked to the museum by the trail that loops around campus. I sug gest you visit the museum - you’ll be quite amazed at the progress that is going on behind the old building. On February 10th, David Steel, the Curator of European Art at the Museum, spoke about new acquisitions of Auguste Rodin sculptures. Given to the museum by the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Museums, the 29 new pieces will be highlighted in the new building. Dr. Steel also spoke about how the museum plans to keep the works safe and sound and installed prop erly. The next lecture, on March 3rd, was given by Dr. Caroline Rocheleau on the museum’s new plans for the Egyptian Collection. The collection, formerly housed in the lower corridor in front of the museum restaurant, will get three new galleries. Dr. Rocheleau plans to show all but three of the forty- plus piece collection, quite a record for the museum! She also bor rowed works from other collections and museums and installed photo murals on the walls to enhance her gallery design. The next lecture will be on March 10th (the day we go to press, so today) and the Chief Cu rator at the museum, Linda Dough erty, will discuss new acquisitions at the museum - I’ve hearcLquite a lot about it, and if I were you. I’d want to get a sneak preview of the new collection! The last lecture at Mer edith will be on March 23 at 7:15 in Jones, and Larry Wheeler, the Museum Director, along with others will give a preview and overview of the new galleries. The architect, Thomas Phifer, who de signed the building, will also be pres ent to discuss the design. Advertise Here!
