Aqua Angels Take on Broadway Erin Etheridge, Staff Writer Witherspoon Pool was filled with the music of Broadway’s big gest hits Thursday, March 25th and Friday, March 26th, as Meredith Col lege’s own synchronized swimming team gave its Spring 2010 perfor mance. The team, referred to as the Aqua Angels and coached by Mere dith faculty member Scott Wray, pre sented “Aqua Angels on Broadway,” a free performance that was open to the public. The talented group of ladies swam in costume to 14 classic and contemporary Broadway num bers, including “Lay All Your Love on Me,” from Mamma Mia, “You Can’t Stop the Beat,” from Hairspray, “Popular,” from Wicked, “When You’ve Got It, Flaunt It,” from The Producers, “Skid Row,” from Little Shop of Horrors, “Out Tonight,” from Rent, “Make ‘em Laugh,” from Singing in the Rain, and “The Bend and Snap,” from Legally Blonde. The swimmers, Meredith students who have anywhere from one to six semesters of synchro nized swimming experience, also performed several numbers by guest choreographer Dacia Como. These selections were “Oh the Thinks You Can Think,” from Seussical the Mu sical, “The Cell Block Tango,” from Chicago, and “Summer Nights,” from Grease. Graduating senior Aqua Angels Katie Holden and Meredith Matney also offered their own rendi tion of “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” NC State Government Internship Program Amy Takaoka Losordo, Contributer Is it too early to start look ing for paid summer internships in November? Not for students like Caitlin Griffin ’11 and Kaitlin Wil liams ’ll who received offers this month from the N.C. State Govern ment Internship Program. Lisa Flint-Morris, Internship Program Coordinator, presents an annual information session in early No vember with the office of Academic & Career Planning (ACP). ACP then encourages students to have their documents reviewed (resume and cover letter) for the Janu ary deadline and to practice their phone interviewing skills. The program, in its 40th year, is coor dinated by the Youth Advocacy and Involvement Office in the Depart ment of Administration. Caitlin Griffin, Spanish/ Psychology major, will be work ing in Raleigh as a Bilingual Agricultural Safety and Health , Educator with the Department of Occupational Safety and Health. Kaitlin Williams, Interior Design, will be working on Architectural Field Studies/Restoration Services Source Book, with the Historical Resources department. Campus Announcements The Preseivation Society of Chapel Hill presents Hexagons, Grids & Webs new paintings by Meredith Alum Ashlynn Browning. The exhibit can be viewed at the Horace Williams House (610 East Rosemary Street, Chapel Hill) from now until May 2nd. The Meredith Herald is alwasy .seeking help. The audience, which occupied bleachers and chairs on three sides of the Witherspoon Pool facility, was also treated to a special performance by the Faculty and Staff Aqua Angels. The members, Laura Fieselman, Jed Mihalisin, Peggy Ross, Betsy Dunn Williams, and Scott Wray, swam to the title song from the musical Nine to Five.
