One of the best things about
Meredith College is its location. Mer
edith has the advantage of being on
one of the most popular streets in all
of Raleigh: Hillsborough Street!
Hillsborough Street may not
seem like the “it” place at first, but its
home to lots of cool restaurants, shops,
and local hang outs. Directly across the
street from Meredith is one of the coolest

Please see the
final page of
this issue for a
areas of Hillsborough. The complex is
home to many student essentials, like
Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, tanning beds,
and caffeine! In the Royal complex
you’ll find the infamous Royal Bean,
where many Meredith students hang
out on weekdays, weeknights, and
weekends. Its low key setting is the
perfect place to hang out with friends or
even hit the books. It also has fabulous
cappuccinos and sweet treats.
Next to the Royal Bean one can
find the Brickhouse, a recently opened
sports bar. The Brickhouse has massive
TVs lining the walls and is a great place
to watch the game with your friends.
They even offer continual, special
discounts for Meredith students and
karaoke nights and special events!
Further down Hillsborough
Street are plenty more shops, restau
rants, and entertainment options for
students. Reader’s Corner and Nice
Price offer used books at 50% off the
sticker price, or the Breweiy features
many local and touring bands eveiy
night of the week. Looking for an
inexpensive meal? Take your pick!
Hillsborough is stocked with fast food
restaurants such as Burger King, Arby’s,
Snoopy’s, and Zaxbys. It is also home
to more inexpensive local joints like
Sub-Conscious, Gumby’s (for the best
pizza and Pokey stix). Golden Dragon,

El Rodeo, and I Heart New York Pizza.
For coffee, try Cup A Joe’s, the. infa
mous haunt for Raleigh students, or
maybe Global Village Organic Coffee
for a more earth-friendly option.
And if you’re looking for some
testosterone, just taking up hanging
out in this section of Hillsborough
Street as all the State boys take breaks
from studying to grab coffee or food
around here. (If you want to travel
onto State’s campus, the well-known
library D.H. Hill is also right across
the street from this part of Hillsbor
If you are going the opposite
direction on Hillsborough, you will run
into one of the many Waffle Houses in
Raleigh. You will also see the ramps
for the inner and outer beltlines.
Eventually you’ll run into the Dorton
Arena, which is home to many differ
ent communities events such as flea
markets and festivals! You also head
this direction to get to Carter-Finley,
where all the action happens on days
when the NC State football team plays
So don’t worry about getting
lost or not having a car on campus. All
you ever really need to find is located
right outside Meredith’s front gate!
