Whines & Gripes collected by April Richard You defeat the purpose of a sweater or coat when you wear flip flops with it. At this point it has nothing to do with Class Spirit; you're just showing off. I promise you the large group of smok ers outside of Joyner is going to give me lung cancer. Why am I paying $6.50 to eat cereal and bagels at every meal in the dining hall? Who says I can’t wear my ring before Ring Dinner? I paid $700 for it. So Meredith... did you think I wouldn’t notice that you raised the cost of print ing? Well I did. I also noticed that you “forgot” to give me more printing money to accomodate this. Why exactly is it going to take two- three weeks before they finish “emer gency repair work” on campus? It surely doesn’t take that long for them to finish the “emergency turf renova tions.” I guess we can go without heat, but the geese can’t go without grass to poop out all over the walkways. I promise you that no matter how many times you send me an email about that friggin’ flu shot I will NOT be getting one, free or otherwise. If McDonald’s can seiwe hot breakfast until 10:30, why can’t Meredith? It’s not like I’m paying ,$34,000 or any thing. Seeing the fact that ice cream is the main course of my dining hall meals, : I'd greatly appreciate if someone would fix the machine!!! Dining hall staff, Who told you I wanted to see my ca- , loric intake for every item on display? 7. So is changing the date of Pre-Regis tration a Meredith tradition, or does it just tend to happen EVERY semester... I wish smoking population on campus would locate and use the trash cans Survey Results As Editor of The Meredith Herald, I w^ould like to thank the more than 100 Meredith community members that completed our survey. Your input was invaluable, and we are already putting your ideas into effect. On this week’s opinion page, I’d like to give you an overview of the results of the survey and then explain what we are doing to adjust to your sug gestions. Myself and the Herald staff have been inspired by your thoughts, and if you ever have any ideas/sugges tions/criticism in the future, please don’t hesitate to email us at herald@ email.meredith.edu Frequency of Readership 25% = Every Issue 50% = A Few Times a Semester 25% =: Once a Year or Never Favorite and Least Favorite Sections: Top 3 Sections = Arts & Entertain ment, Campus Life, Opinion Bottom 3 Sections = International/ National News, Sports, Science and Technology Favorite Columns: 1. Whines and Gripes 2. ’What’s Up in Raleigh 3 jVsk Gigi Generally, readers were of the opinion that our articles are sometimes thought-provoking, well-written, relevant and diverse. 82% of those who com pleted the survey felt that an online version of The Herald would be more accessible across campus, al though many commented that they would not want an online version to take the place of a print version of The Herald. Other comments requested more local and campus news that was relevant to students. We also received suggestions for fashion, interior design, finance, cooking and education columns. So what is The Herald staff doing about your suggestions? You’ll see in this week’s paper that we’ve expanded our news sec tion to focus more on state and local news than national or inter national pieces. In the Campus Life section we have added a ‘Campus Annovmcements’ section where departments can feature special events, and next week we will be expanding our Campus Life section into a two page spread—merging the Sports section into Campus Life and the Sci/Tech section into News. Additionally, we have brought back a larger 'Whines and Gripes column and added more events to What’s Up in Raleigh. There is a new fashion columnist, Crystal Pickard, who will be contributing articles on fashion trends and lo cal designers. Additionally, we are recruiting pieces from community members versed in the other areas you suggested. An online version of The Herald is in the works, and we are always working to increase our article quality level and rel evance to campus; we hope you can see our improvement throughout the semester. Please continue to share your suggestions with us and send in your opinions on The Herald and general happenings at Meredith College.
