Summer Study Abroad Opportunities I The Study Abroad Office is offering many unique academic and cultural programs open to all Meredith stu dents this summer. Read about them here and apply before the deadline, Februaiy ist. Meredith in Denmark (Early Summer) Study Humanities, Business, Social Sciences, Pre-Med, Early Childhood Development and Sustainability at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad at two three week summer sessions: May 22-June lo and/or June 13-Julyi. Course options include Design and Society in Denmark, Human Traf ficking in Europe, European Business Strategy and 14 other courses. Cost: $2990 for Session 1, $3990 for Session 2, $6435 for both sessions plus airfare, spending money and fees for all sessions Meredith in Denmark (Interior Design) Interior Design students can travel to Copenhagen, Denmark and the Danish Institute for Study Abroad and study Interior Architecture Studio (equivalent to Meredith’s IDS44) and Scandinavia'Design and Architecture (equivalent to a Meredith ID elective) from June 27-August 12. Cost: $9790 plus airfare and spending money - Italy and Switzerland Dr Greg Vitarbo of the Dept, of His- . tory, Politics and International Studies and Dr. Jim Waddelow of the Music Department will lead a six-hour course of study with a mandatory course in Arts, Artifacts and Culture and an option of HIS 948: Warfare, Culture, and Social Change in Western His tory or MUS 214: Music Appreciation. The program will begin with 4 weeks in Sansepolcro, Italy including excur sions to Anghiari, Arezzo and Florence and then travel to Stechelberg, Swit zerland. Cost: $5100 plus airfare, travel ex penses in Europe and spending money United Kingdom Study Arts, Artifacts and Culture and British Parliamentary Government or Modern Drama with Dr Betty Webb and Ms Catherine Rodgers of Meredith College and Mr John Rose, a retired House of Commons Clerk in Kensington Square at Heythrop College in London from June 26 to July 27. Cost: $5600 plus airfare and personal spending **Note: The Italy and Switzerland and United Kingdom programs can be combined for a 12 credit hour program across three countries from-May 19 to July 27. “Eat, Play, Design” Child Development and Interior Design in Italy . Drs. Kathryn Clark and Ellen Goode of the Dept of Human Environmental Sci ences will lead a three-hour curriculum offering CD 900: Play: Cross Cultural Perspectives or ID 940: Italian Design Studio from July 2 to July 23 in Safise- polcro, Italy. Cost: $3500 plus airfare, money for an independent travel break and personal spending. Iceland Drs Michael Novak and Elpise Grath- wohl will lead a ix week program in History and English with courses in Arts, Artifacts and Culture and Themes in Icelandic History and Literature from May 27-June 26. Cost: $5500 plus airfare, independent travel and gifts Austria Study Austrian history and politics and Art, Artifacts and Culture with Drs Ellen Williams and Jeffrey Martinson of the Music and History, Politics and In ternational Studies departments respec tively. The program will visit Vienna, Graz and Salzburg between June 26 and July 17. Cost: $3300 plus airfare, independent travel expenses and personal spending Costa Rica: Language ' and Culture Study Spanish language and culture while participating in a service learning project in San Joaquin de Flores with Callie DeBellis of the Dept of Foreign Languages and Literatures from June 5 to July 2011. Cost: $3550 plus airfare, inde pendent travel and miscellaneous expenses Costa Rica: Tropical Ecosystems Spend three weeks (May 14 to June 2) traveling throughout Costa Rica to study rainforest, ma rine and cloud forest ecosystems (BIO 215, Tropical Ecosystems) with program director Dr. Erin , Lindquist. Cost: $3100 plus airfare, independent travel expenses and personal spending **Note: These two Costa Rica programs can be combined for a study of Spanish, culture and tropical ecosystems from May 14th to July 2nd for a cost of $6000 plus airfare, independent travel and personal spending.
