My last roommate didn't come back to Meredith after last semester. I was really excited to get a new ipommate. We could hang _ f, go to movies and eat in the dining hall together. We have been getting along quite well; however, we get along too well. We seem to have eveiything in common, but I am bcgin- ‘ mg to feel a little \veird around her. She switched her schedule after the first week of classes so that we \vould have the same classes together. She often goes in my closet and takes ly clothes. When I come back to campus after hanging out with my boyfriend, she immediately bombards me with questions as soon as 1 step in the door. She will ask, "Where have 'ou been?" or "Why were you over there for so long?" or "What did you do over there?’’ Currently, I am missing a picture of my boyfriend by my bed and she claims to know nothing about its new location. She has told me that she gets upset ^vhen I am not there for her, ^v'hich makes me think that she may be a danger to herself. 1 am starting to w'orry for my safety as ^vell. What do I do? Sincerely, Moving out soon Dear moving out soon. Your letter sounds like a screenplay for the movie. The Roommate. However, this is not Hollywood. It is real life. It is a good thing that you have observ'ed and questioned your roommate’s unusual behav ior. There are man>' resources available to you on campus to help you out with this situation. First, you should immediately contact your Resident Assistant (RA) and Residence Director (RD) to explain the situation. You should ask to meet with them in person and discuss the situation. They both will be glad to meet with you. They are here to help you, as well as the Director of Residence Life, Heidi LeCount. She would be someone to talk to as well. Since you mentioned your roommate may be a danger to herself and others, you should tell your R.A RD, and Heidi. Meredith is supposed to feel like your home and you shouldn’t feel that you are unsafe. If you feel unsafe, call Campus Security (x8888). It sounds like you have been through a lot. Please know that if you ever need support or someone else to talk to, the warm and friendly staff in the Counseling Center are available, for free. While I think it is important to discuss your concerns with your roommate, you may want to have an RA or RD present. I hope this helps. Your strong side, Gigi
