Faction over
The Choice is Yours
Kelly Wallace, staff writer
If you are up for an action packed
movie with a dash of romance this movie
is worth seeing. It is a bit lengthy, but
definitely worth the time. Directed by
Neil Burger and based off of the young
adult trilogy by Veronica Roth, Diver
gent was released on March 21, 2014. It
has earned $101 million dollars since its
release. Similar to Harry Potter, loyalties
are based on sectional divides. But in
stead of being divided into houses such
as Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and
Slytherin, the characters in Divergent
separate into distinct factions based on
human virtues.
The plot focuses on Tris Prior
(Shailene Woodley), and Four (Theo
James), who meet after she learns that
she is divergent, meaning she will never
really fit into any faction. However, she
joins the faction Dauntless, who are the
“brave ones,” leaving behind her old
faction and her family. Shortly after, she
meets Four, who acts as her trainer. Kate
Winslet plays Jeanine Matthews, the
representative from the faction Erudite.
Matthews creates a secret alliance with
the leaders of Dauntless to not only en
slave their factions, but also capture Tris
and other divergents.
The movie leaves you wonder
ing if a lifestyle is more important than
being with you ovm family, your own
blood. Would you the sacrifice to leave
your family to live a life full of your own
virtues or would you stay? The choice is
yours.

Free E-Book Helps Graduates Find Meaningful Careers
Holly Mills, contributing writer
Graduating from college can be an exciting,
but daunting experience. Charlie Hoehn understands
that from his recent graduation from Colorado State
University in 2008. When he and all of his friends
struggled to find fulfilling work after graduation,
Hoehn decided to try a different approach to finding
a job: he decided to work for free. In his free e-book,
Recession Proof Graduate, Hoehn provides step-by-
step instructions to help college students find profes
sionals they could actually learn from by doing work
they genuinely enjoy.
Start, Hoehn says, by getting off boring ca
reer builder websites as if they truly hold the dream
job you’ve been hoping for after graduation. Hoehn
encourages students to step out of the crowd and
decide what you’re really interested in doing. Once
you know your true field of interest, Hoehn provides
detailed methods of networking, acquiring valuable
skills, and tailoring your online presence. Then reach
out to the people who seem the least accessible as a
recent graduate and offer to work for free. “Well that’s
all great but how am I going to pay the bills while I’m
doing all of this free work?” Hoehn addresses this
important issue as well and_explains the short term_
costs to this approach that have long term pay-offs.
With over 150,000 downloads, Hoehn offers
testimonies from other graduates who have used his
techniques and found themselves in paid positions
they never dreamed they could reach soon after col
lege. He uses conversational, relatable language you
could easily hear walking down a hallway in Joyner.
Since it’s downloadable, you can read it on your lap
top, tablet, or smartphone and enjoy skimming it
thanks to bolded and bulleted key ideas.
Overall, this e-book provided me with a
different approach to finding a job that has actu
ally been really exciting to experience. In following
Hoehn’s methods. I’ve been able to interview with
entrepreneurs, directors, and innovators within the
professional sustainability community. As Floehn
says, “The recession is not the obstacle. The obstacle
is to abandon conventional job-hunting methods. I
took all the traditional advice I’d been given and ig
nored it. I did things differently, and it paid off.”
NCAA Tournament: Did It Make
You Mad?
Maitlyn Healy, A&E and sports
editor
Warren Buffet’s $1 billion is safe
for another year because none of the
brackets in the Quicken Loans Billion
Dollar Bracket Challenge can claim per
fection. March Madness certainly lived up
to its name this year as all brackets were
basically busted by March 21, and the
championship game ended up between
No. 7 UConn and No. 8 Kentucky. Fans
should not feel too bad, though; Obama
was way off, too.
There were several upsets in
this year’s tournament. In the Round of
64, VCU fell to Stephen F. Austin, Day-
ton beat Ohio State, North Dakota State
knocked Oklahoma out, and Mercer con
quered Duke. In the Round of 32, Dayton
squeezed by Syracuse, Stanford defeated
Kansas, and Kentucky took out the un
defeated Wichita State. In the Sweet Six
teen, Kentucky pulled out another win
against Louisville. Kentucky surprised
again in the Elite Eight with a victory over
Michigan, and UConn defeated Michigan
State. The most surprising upset came in
the Final Four when UConn defeated the
Florida Gators, a No. 1 seed that was on
a 30 game win-streak. The championship
game between UConn and Kentucky was
definitely hard to predict, as most bracket
doodlers figured out.
Kentucky came to the champi
onship game with a 29-10 record, and
UConn came in with a record of 31-8. At
halftime, the score had UConn in the lead
at 35-31. UConn’s lead stretched up to 15
points in the first half, and they definite
ly dominated. Kentucky began to close
that gap as time ticked closer to the half,
however, because they became more ag
gressive with their shots and rebounds.
The game remained close throughout
the second half, but UConn stayed on top
and emerged victorious with a final score
of 60-54. UConn is the first No. 7 seed to
ever win the NCAA Championship.
