How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book!” For those of you who are lovers of books and reading, like myself, finding the time dur ing the semester to sit down and read one is difficult. Luckily spring break is on its way, and along with it some time to read. Below are three novels with short descriptions that I personally love. I hope you enjoy them just as much as I did, and enjoy your Spring Break! via Google The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey Genres: Young Adult, Science Fiction, Apocalyptic, Dystopia The beings that only look human have already brought on the first four waves. Art in Bloom Sarah Cullen, Staff Writer While the snow falls and the cold winter winds blow in, it is hard to imagine spring and its flowers are anywhere near us. While they may be far from our front lawns, the North Carolina Museum of Art is bring ing them into the museum. Starting Thursday, Mar. 19, the museum will have its inaugural festival of art and flowers. With floral designers from across North Carolina and throughout the world, the West building will become a haven of springtime amidst all of the cold weather. The floral masterpieces will be interpreting several masterworks from the perma nent collection with 45 beautiful and bountiful flower displays. The exhibition will last only four days, from Mar.19-22 and will consist of not only the beautiful floral exhibits, but also public docent- led tours throughout the flowers, receptions, and special talks with re nowned florists such as Shane Connolly, the Royal Florist who was the mastermind behind the beautiful Princess Kate’s wedding floral displays at her wedding to Prince William in 2011. There will also be a walk in the park guided tour that will lead visitors through the Museum Park and pond if warmer weather permits. During the four day special exhibition, the West building that houses the permanent collection for the North Carolina Museum of Art will be closed to the public without a ticket to the Art in Bloom exhibition (the East building which houses the temporary and rotating collection and the Museum Park will remain open). This amazing event is free for children 6 and under, and only costs $15 for all other patrons ($10 if you are a NCMA member) and the tickets can be bought through the phone by calling (919) 839-NCMA. So, do not let these gloomy winter days keep you blue, come out and remember the beauty of spring at this wonder ful floral festival at the art museum dovra the street from our wonderful Meredith College. ART via NCMA Player Spotlight: Lacrosse Player Jessica Sampson Shantel Jordan, Staff Writer MCGs, meet this week’s Player Spotlight: Jessica Sampson. She’s a freshman attack on the Meredith College Lacrosse team. I caught up with Jessica to take a look at her lacrosse career and to get to know her a bit better. She has been playing lacrosse since her sophomore year at Heritage High School, where she was a midfielder. Since beginning her college lax career, she has changed up po sitions and now plays attack for the Avenging Angels. She first knew she wanted to play for Meredith when she was in high school and the coaches came to help out with one of her prac tices. Jessica contributes most of her knowledge in lacrosse to her current coaches because of all the hard work they put into the team. Before games, she likes to listen to her own music and get in the zone - reggae, R&B and rap to be exact. She says that her biggest fans this far have been her father and her brother, who have always been there and support her in life. Lacrosse has been a great way for her to meet new people and to learn the importance of dis cipline. She says that her biggest strength is be ing a versatile player and she likes to challenge herself when she’s on the field. Putting in nearly 12 honrs a week in practice certainly teaches these young, ladies how to work hard both on and off the field. It’s all about time management and being able to juggle schoolwork and athletics, but at Mer edith College anything is possible. Lacrosse season is in full swing from now until April, so come out and support your fellow Angels as they hope to make another run for the NCAA Tournament. Meredith College Lacrosse - Go ing Strong.
