Since then she has used her platform to bring issues such as contraception, the wage gap, and other forms of workplace discrimination. Steinem’s career throughout the 1960s and 1970s saw her become the leader and face of the feminist movement. Her strides in women’s liberation as well as the black power movement allowed her to begin the widely successful magazine Ms,, which brought women’s rights issues to the forefront of the mainstream. Gloria Steinem’s efforts with the feminist movement have allowed women to make strides towards equality. Her impact is seen across the globe as she has published numerous articles in the name of the feminist movement, published several books, and been showered with awards for her life’s work. It is through the works of Gloria Steinem’s work that women of today are able to continue going strong. Title IX correlates with the sexual misconduct policy that Meredith College has implemented because it deals with what is consent, sexual harassment and sexual conduct. Meredith College’s Title IX coordinators are Ann Gleason and Pam Davis. Dean Gleason highlights us the importance of being knowledgeable about sexual misconduct and Title IX: “Title IX is aimed towards students, but it also applies to anyone involved on campus, including anyone who just comes to visit the college.” 20% of college- aged women will have had reported being sexually assaulted or violated by the time they finish college (CDC) . Gleason explains, “Some perpetrators may be women, but these policies are in place to protect our students in the case that these things happen off-campus. These things may affect them [students] academically and emotionally to the point where they may act fearful, anxious and confused and it is our job as a community to help them succeed even when they are weak.” For more information and to share your ideas about these policies, come to the information session on September 20th, 2016 at 4pm in Harris 214, You can also visit Meredith’s website for more information on the college’s Title IX policy: http://www. meredith.edu/title-ix. «ndl Deputy IX Cria(a» ctf Wak® A«saR»lt fctetwilh Ci^esfS S«vie« l Women of MC: Caitlyn Grimes Sarah Smerko, Features Editor; Seung Pang, Staff Writer I “Meredith College offers many opportunities for its students to help them grow into strong individuals.
