How about that? The above name for our newsletter was suggested by HELEN and
ROBERT STOUT, PKS lot owners who live in Bloomington, Indiana.
We’ve had most agreeable response to the first letter and are encouraged to plunge
ahead (principally because of a few of you who have offered help in the future,
and we believe a variety of styles will be pleasing to most readers).
JIM MILLER wrote. DR. CRIMSON wrote from Durham, N. C. LETITIA and ALLEN MITCHELL
wrote to say they are renting here this summer while their home is being built at
Cedar Rd. and Cypress Ct. We also had a letter from ALICE CLOSE from North Chili,
N. Y., saying that the Closes will be moving to Walnut Circle. Hi, Alicel Co-edit
or Betty Hammon used to be college librarian at Brockport State, practically on your
doorstep.
THE COCKTAIL PARTY on June 9th was super I For some of us this was the first and
the last of the PKS cocktail parties, since many of us have lived here or owned
property here for less than a year, and the Roosevelts were sort of taking their
final bows, bless their generous hearts I Let’s hope we can carry on somehow with
these get-togethers even when we’re on our own. The PKS people are a friendly
breed, combining, as we have noted before, many age groups. It was a delight to
see that several whole families attended the function, which gathered representa
tives of about three generations at the lovely Coral Bay Club.
DON BROCK'S job is done; the property has all been sold. That guy is a real win
ner. Not many folks are as good humored or as capable as he is. There is a rare
combination of talents. When you think of all the gripes he’s had to hear and how
he always seems to be in this great mood. It’s fantastic. He will really leave a
gap. Incidentally, he is continuing in real estate (with Carolyn Moran continuing
to right arm for him - how lucky can he get?). You can still go to him for therapy
and guidance, although you’d best be in the market for a lot or a house, or you won’t
be playing fair. Everyone cheers him on to succeed in this new adventure.
WE HOPE YOU FEEL THE SAME AS WE DO ABOUT INCORPORATION OF OUR LITTLE GROUP HERE.
BY NOW, YOU’VE HAD A CHANCE TO SIFT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS AND SURELY YOU HAVE
COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT AN INCORPORATED VILLAGE IS THE ANSWER. WHEN WE ARE
INCORPORATED WE WILL BE ABLE TO SHAPE OUR OWN FUTURE, HAVE THE REINS, SO TO SPEAK,
BE STRONGER THROUGH THE UNITY OF BEING ORGANIZED. HAVE THE POWER TO KEEP PKS AS
BEAUTIFUL AS IT IS NOW. (We think that was an editorial - it sounds like one,
kind of - but editorials are allowed in newspapers, aren’t they?)
Have you seen the little book put out by the Travel and Promotion Division, Dept,
of Natural and Economic Resources in Raleigh, called "A DICTIONARY OF THE QUEEN’S
ENGLISH" (as she is spoke here in North Carolina)? Example: A jularker is a
beau or boyfriend, as in "The young lady’s jularker was all dressed up when he came
calling." OR: "toide", as in "The toide is coming in and it’s very hoigh." No
kidding. You can send for this book through the above mentioned address.
NEWCOMER NOTES: KEN and PEG KNIGHT have moved into their home on Oakleaf Drive.
LARRY and KAY JEROME will soon be moving into their home on Oakleaf Drive. The
STAN BRUNTS (he is the new manager of PKS Golf and Country Club) are building on
Mulberry Court. WAYNE and CAROLYN CLEVELAND’S house on Oakleaf is under way. LIB
and SYLVESTER FLEMING of Fleming’s Motel are building on Loblolly, overlooking the
canal. GERT WARNER’S sister, MABEL HEMPHILL, is building next to the Warners on
Oakleaf. MARTHA and ODELL FLYNN are in their home on Mimosa. NELL and ED CRUMLEY
will soon be moving into their house on Teak Court. We’re looking forward to Nell’s
experienced help in future newsletters, as she has edited a paper of this sort in
Whispering Pines, N. C.
