• • 3 saying, "Those North Carolinians have tar on their heels!" is more romantic. But who really knows? Or ever will? Doesn't matter: the name sticks, like the tar it*s named after, and so does the sentiment, which is kind of nice, oOo A LETTER TO THE EDITORS: Dear Shore Line — Please let me, through you, say something about things in our Town that are happening to make it the kind of place we wanted to "build our dream home",,,,.There seems to be a new kind of interest of our citizens in joining in efforts to work on the many jobs that need doing — for instance — Ken Knight has formed a study group composed of Larxy Jerome, Dea,n Bror>sman, Bill Martin, Stanley Brunt, Irma Brossman, Wayne Cleveland, Otto Weis and Howaird Overman, and they are now completing their recommendations to our Town Commis sioners of the needed Town Ordinances, Another group composed of Ed Baker, A1 Wyllie and Martha Muilenberg are undertaking a study of our street lights — are they needed and where and when? Paul Kincaid has spent a lot of time in developing what ought to be recommended for the Town in the area of sub divisions, as has Ken Haller, among many other things, been giving attention to future needs for control of our commercial area,,,,, Then what about our Town Commissioners? We may not always agree with them, but let us not forget the work load they carry for us, Jim Redfield, as Mayor, has had literally a full time job and many times a hard and demanding one, and what about the very outstanding contribution Ruth Bray has made in permitting the use of the facilities of Atlantis Lodge for the Town’s business needs. So this leads me to say that all of us would be less critical and a little more willing .to | lend a hand if we would only reflect on how much some are giving,«,,,,Whon you \ feel you have some small thing to complain about, why not form another group and set a clean-up week for our streets and Salter Path Road? ,,,,,,A CITIZEN i —- oGo ’ \ New on White Ash Drive are the McKeens, most recently of Pine Knoll Townes, and before that from Yorktown Hts,, N, Y, Mr, McKeen is retired from Union Carbide and Mrs, McKeen worked 29 years for Readers Digest in Pleansantville, N, Y, —— oOo ——— It*s easy to join the North Carolina Symphony; Call Mary Doll (726-7521) or Mary Emmerson (726-7302) and they*11 see that you get a ticket for next season \ ■ in return for your five dollars. One of these days, after fishing or gardening or even erranding far into a meal hour, throw together a quick batch of OATMEAL SOUP, the following recipe for which was obtained from a reliable Swiss cook in the mountains a few miles above Glarus, Allow three heaping teaspoons of oatmeal for each porson. Brown it is a hunk of butter—maybe a couple tablespoons. Margarine works fine, too. Add a cup or bowl of liquid per person, along with a bouillon cube apiece (chicken or beef or broth), parsley, some chopped onion, a bay leaf, and a clove. Simmer until oatmeal is done..
