meeting was caled to order by Chairman Nelson Benzing, and following reports
the Secretary and Treasurer, Mary K, Smith, there was general discussion of
matters concerning the parks, including park maintenance.

Volunteers have been working to beautify the parks. Nelson Benzing, Bob O'Neal,
George Kloek and Kemey Smith cut and burned trash, and Waightsel Hicks and
Marvin Smith mowed the grass at McNeil Inlet, The next project in 03d Pine Knoll
Shores which is being planned by William Murrill and Ray Scoggins is a work day
and picnic at the park by Rudy McBride's on Oakleaf,
At Mimosa Park, volunteers moved the bicycle rack off the paved area so as to
leave that space for cars. They set it next to the walkway to the beach and put
in wooden beams and supports behind it to prevent any sand from eroding into the
bicycle area, Dan Vaughan, Milt Yaeck, Bob Bloomer, Carl H^on and Willard
Gamer all worked on this project.
NEW NEIGHBORSt Margie and Van Harrington moved to Birch Ct, on April 21 from
Greenville, their home town. Van had been commuting to Havelock where is with H,
and N, Chevrolet, and they decided to live closer to his work and at the same
time be close to where he can hunt and fish and where Margie can enjoy more beach
life along with her usual fun things like yard work, needle work, and cooking.
Formerly a dental hygLenist, Margie now concentrates on bringing up their two
year old daughter and getting their house into shape (the shaping up of houses
down here is truly full time stuff),
Brenda and Walter Cox, recently of Fayetteville, have moved to Willow Road with
their two children, a boy 12 and a girl 7* Walter is the Finance Supervisor for
Connor Mobile Homes,
Sgt, Ray LaBorde, Air Traffic Controller at Cherry Point, and his wife Mary, are
also new residents on Willow Road, Originally from DuBois, Pennsylvania, most
recently of Beaufort, South Carolina, the LaBordes have a dog and a cat who just
had four kittens.
Moving into their new home on Beechwood Drive are Bob and Penny McAnew, Bob has
retired from the Air Force where he was, he tells us, a "Pentagon Commando", Way
l^ack he flew as navigator with General Curtis LeMay, but most recently he has
been with foreign intelligence. The McAnews have two sons, one of whom will be a
junior in high school and the other a college student in Chapel Hill where, to his
father's pride, he has made the Dean's List,
Have you met the young BRANTLEYS who are living on Elm Court for three months
while Julian works with Dr, Boid.on, Julian is here on a grant from the Duke
Foundation which seeks to interest young doctors in practice in eastern North
Carolina, Julian and Dolly are interested in boats, fishing and tennis.
Another young couple who have recently moved into PKS are Davis and Heather Cook^
who are living on Oakleaf Drive, Davis used to work in Richmond, Va,, but he dncf
Heather love this area so much that they piilled up stakes and moved here. They
have both found jobs here but take time to fish and put out crab pots and swim.
Heather is interested in crafts and does lovely delicate designs with twigs, moss,
and small flowers embedded in plastic.
