Interested in old guns? MURRAY WHITEHURST has a muzzle loading riflt, old Kentuckiarj style. This is a great scallop year, and Mfyndays and Wednesdays you can see Pine Knoll Shore' residents taking off in their boats to rake for scallops. Just in case you are new to this sport, you will find 'that the best time to go for scallops is when the tide is low and the water is C9,lm, Then you can see the scallop lying in little hollows in the sand, dark side up so that it is camouflaged. You step out of the boat in your waders into a foot or less of water and rake for them, or if you are like your older editor, you get so excited that you reach right down to pick them up by hand and get your sleeves wet, Ths easiest container to use is a pail or wire basket set in an inner tube so that it will float along at the end of a rope and you won't have to carry a heavy load of scallops. You need a license to gather scallops you pick them up by hand and gather only one bushel. If you use a rake, you need a commercial fishing license which costs three dollars a year and is good also for clams, oysters, shrimp and for fishing with a neto The Fish Commission where you get your license and booklet of regulations is on Highway 70 next to Carteret Tech, A related reminder - you now have to license any boat having a motor even if the boat is under twelve feet and the motor only four horsepower. This is a change in boat licensing regulations, and those of us who putt-putted along in small boats with motors ten horsepower or under must now license them. Interesting Items from our Mayor; Estimates issued in October by the N, C, Office of State Planning showed that the PKS estimated population for 197^ had increased 932.2^ over the population reported for the census in 1970, This was by far the largest percentage increase in the entire State! By comparison, Carteret County increased 10,4-^, Atlantic Beach 60% and Morehead City PKS automobile tags — gree and white for 1976 - are available at the Town Hall beginning January 2 for $1, each. Every motor vehicle owned by a resident of the Town is required to display the tag on or before February 15, At the Commissioners' meeting of December 11, the Mayor reminded the assembly that dog owners MUST register their dogs at the Town Hall, To date ten persons have complied. There is no charge for registration, the requirement being solely a health regulation to insure that dogs have been innoculated against rabies. How about some cooperation from the rest of you dog owners?
