What’s Up With PARC? By Jean McDanal Thanks to the generosity of so many of you who adopted a family, the Kayak for the Warriors Angel Tree was a huge success. A special thank you is extended to BJ Peter and Teresa Stanton-Law for all the organizing and wrapping. We helped a total of 20 vetted families, all from North Carolina with most residing locally, have a very merry Christmas. This year’s ninth annual Turkey Trot in Pine Knoll Shores took place on Thanksgiving morning under clear skies. Mayor Jones was there with his trusty bugle to sound the “charge” that is the traditional start of the race. At last count, Cheryl Smith, who handled the registration table, indicated that we had approximately 250 participants in this year’s event, including people from all over Carteret County, many out-of-state visitors and a large number of children. Thanks to Jerry Price for setting up the course, Suzanne Carmel for securing our goodies, Cheryl Smith for registration and Dan Law for photographing the event. This has grown in popularity over the years, so mark your calendar for next year’s event, which is always held on Thanksgiving Day, starting at McNeill Park, with registration at 8:30 a.m. and the start of the w’alk/run at 9 a.m. Unfortunately, the Christmas Flotilla scheduled for Saturday, December 9, was cancelled due to inclement weather. A report on the Christmas Parade will be included in next month’s PARC column. The Parks and Recreation Committee welcomes suggestions for activities that will get people out, moving and involved. We are soliciting fresh ideas for events that will interest our residents. Let your imagination fly and contact us with your suggestions. Please email PARCPR@ec.rr.com or come to one of our meetings. The next meeting is Tuesday, January 10, at 9 a.m. at town hall. January 2018 I The Shoreline
