PKA News ByAmry Cox You may not have noticed the flagged stakes on the west (Mimosa Boulevard) side of FJall Haven, but they were there last month, standing tall and marking but an important area—the new location of the replacement swing set. Our older wooden play set Was beyond its useful life and repair capabilities, so it was dismantled and removed last fall to make way for a newer and better swing set. We are hopeful that installation will be complete by the time you are reading this article. The new structure has a double bay of swings with an infant swing off one side and a horizontal ladder off of the other side. In keeping with our tradition of volunteerism, a volunteer work group agreed to install the play set and finish off the surrounding area. What a perfect way to enjoy the milder spring temperatures outside and celebrate Earth Day on April 22. Trained arborist and Pine Knoll Shores resident Steve Felch dedicated time to check on the health and welfare of the trees at Hall Haven. Many got a clean bill of health, and the crepe myrtles along Beechwood Drive got a good trim to remove deadwood and secondary branches. Although it can look a bit severe at first, it is a necessary step toward new growth and greater longevity of those trees. The shrubs and bushes were trimmed and shaped, and the signs were cleaned to help celebrate spring. Going around and working at the various common areas helps to remind you how different and unique each park is. Take a minute and go by for a look on, your walk, bike ride or boat cruise. PKA 50th anniversary events. April is the next to last month of our year-long celebration to highlight 50 years of Pine Knoll Association. This months main event is the Champagne & Cider celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. at Davis Landing on Wednesday, April 25. PKA contact. PKS Spring White Goods and Bulk Waste Pickup By Sarah Williams The spring collection of bulk waste and white goods is scheduled for Tuesday, May 15. This is a one-day pickup, and all items must be out on Monday night. Please note that items put out after the initial collection will not be picked up. Bulk waste includes household furniture, mattresses, bedding, outdoor grills (propane tanks are excluded), outdoor furniture, bags of clothing and small quantities of construction and demolition material normally associated with minor homeowner repairs. Items other than furniture must be bagged or tied in bundles, with long items not to exceed four feet in length. Doors can be discarded in their full length. Typical white goods are appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers and hot water heaters. Absolutely no used tires, batteries, light bulbs, oil, grease, paint, or any other materials that are considered toxic will be collected since these materials are considered to be hazardous. The Coastal Environmental Partnership (which includes Carteret, Craven and Pamlico counties) holds a hazardous waste day annually at the Carteret County Health Department, 3820 Bridges Street in Morehead City, to collect these items. The 2018 date is Saturday, September 22, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 2018 I The Shoreline
