New Year’s Day 2019 in PKS New Year’s Day dawned with a stunning sunrise over the ocean as some folks made plans for the traditional bike ride/hike to Fort Macon, and others were making plans to attend the Penguin Plunge at Atlantic Beach. Proceeds of the Penguin Plunge benefitted Mile of Hope this year, a program that provides support for child cancer patients and their families. The Pine Knoll Shores Women’s Club helps host a special beach visit for the Mile of Hope families on Mother’s Day weekend each year, and several club members attended the Penguin Plunge in honor of Mile of Hope and the families they serve. ifeiif .Vi ? tii / '' * ly i)y —Photo By Betsy Beals A number of Pine Knoll Shores residents and friends came out to enjoy the annual bike ride and hike to Fort Macon.—Photo by Susan Toms ■:3> i* mm il * mm ' % , vV -X Mile of Hope Coordinator Ed Moore—Photo ty eefsy Bea/s Pine Knoll Shores Women s Club members Debi Suggs, Donna Ross, Arlene Terrell, Ida Mazzoni, Martha Edwards, Bonnie Ferneau, Pegge Knecht, Peggy Young and Ronnie Stanley, joined by Michael Ferneau, served as Santa Ed Moore’s elves and reindeer.
