Caught Doing Something Good 2019: Year of the Tree. With a lot of hard work and great volunteers, the “sell and plant” part of the Year of the Tree was a success. Just over 190 trees were sold and planted over the span of several days. The Town of Pine Knoll Shores is thankful to the many volunteers who helped to make this a success. Chris Freeman and Community Appearance Commission (CAC) Chairman Steve Felch worked countless hours behind the scenes, setting the wheels into motion. Thanks to ProGreen Turf & Landscape for donating their time to plant the first 100 trees at no cost. Getting the trees to residents’ homes could not have happened without the help of our CAG. They marked trees and coordinated delivery to the residences, making the process a smooth one. The Garden Club produced fliers outlining the steps to care for the new trees that were passed out to the proud new owners. We are grateful for everyone’s help. There are so many names that it would be hard to list them all here. Thank you to all for volunteering your time, and thanks to those of you who bought trees. Everyone working together made this event a real success. Pine Knoll Shores’ ability to protect trees preserved. Recent legislation under consideration by the North Carolina General Assembly (SB 367) contained language that, would have affected the town’s ability to protect our environment by controlling the removal of trees and iharitime vegetation. Citizens of Pine Knoll Shores and. those from other towns in danger of having their local tree ordinances undermined by this legislation reached out to their representatives to express their concerns. As a result of this grassroots effort, the language in the bill was changed, and the regulatory authority of the towns remains intact. Thanks is extended to Senator Norman Sanderson and Representative Pat McElraft for considering these citizen concerns. Yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk.
