Real Estate News By Marian Goetzinger, Pine Knoll Shores Realty Outdoor living spaces matter When people start their quest for a home at the beach, they are looking for casual coastal living. They envision sitting on the porch and enjoying the view. No matter where you live on the Crystal Coast, you can have a view. It might be the ocean, sound, lake or canal, or the maritime forest. Dreams are built around cookouts on the deck, children playing'in the yard, and marshmallows roasted by the fire pit. A hammock, swing, glider or chaise lounge all call us outdoors. A screened porch with an outdoor dining area is as important to some buyers as a large kitchen. If you are thinking of selling your home, don’t underestimate the value of all the outdoor living spaces. Clean all the decks and porches. If it is time to paint or stain, do it now. Check for spider webs and wasp nests. Now is a perfect time to buy some brightly blooming potted plants and colorful cushions for your outdoor chairs and gliders. Have you used your outdoor shower lately? If not, check it out. Does it invite the returning beachcomber in for a quick de-sanding? How can you spruce it up and brighten it up? A colorful plastic bucket of shower supplies and a bright showerm w curtain are possible ideas. Be creative. If you don’t have a sitting area in your yard, consider creating one. Find or orchestrate some privacy, and put a bench or swing facing a view. Sit down and take a break, and pretend you’re on vacation at the beach. If it feels right, that’s what you need. If you have that old metal bench out there under the tree that you haven’t sat in for years, clean it up. A bright color of spray paint can add years to the life of outdoor seating and add a splash of color for increased curb appeal. Can’t figure out what to do? Call your favorite realtor. She will have lots of ideas for you. It’s what we do. PKA News By Carolyn Brown Thompson A huge thank you goes out to numerous volunteers who have worked tirelessly in our parks and community to help recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Florence. Downed trees and branches have been removed from our parks and waterways, new trees have been planted, and docks and sea walls have been repaired. Recently, more than 20 volunteers assisted with rebuilding the sittum at Ocean Park, a large undertaking which required several days of work. Though every attempt has been made to make all of the necessary repairs, we realize that some may have been missed. If you see something that needs attention, please say something. That will help us tremendously. And if you are able to volunteer to help with the repairs, please do so. Every pair of hands is needed. As you enjoy the newly refurbished sittum, our great parks and our beautiful beaches, please help us keep them in pristine condition by disposing of your trash, pet waste and cigarette butts appropriately. Also, should you have a broken chair, tent or cooler, please take it with you when you leave. Our trash receptacles cannot accommodate such large items, plus all of our parks are maintained by volunteers. It will be most helpful to lighten their loads. Everyone who attends the monthly sittum get-togethers held at Ocean Park on the first Sunday of each month enjoys good fun and fellowship. Please come at 5:30 p.m. and bring a beverage and a dish to share with your neighbors while you enjoy a spectacular view. We look forward to seeing you there. PKA contact.
