1967-2017 PKA News By Carolyn Brown Thompson The unveiling of Connor Marshs Eagle Scout project for book exchange boxes placed at Ocean Park, Hall Haven and Brock Basin was held at Hall Haven on Thursday, August 29. Connor, his parents and special guests attended the event where Mayor Ken Jones issued a proclamation that August 30, 2019, would be Connor Marsh Day in Pine Knoll Shores. Marsh and his fellow scouts who assisted with the project were praised for the thoughtful nature of the book exchange boxes and the nice addition to the Pine Knoll Shores community The boxes are already quite popular and are being used by many as will be the case for years to come. In addition to the installation of the boxes, the scouts also completed a landscaping project at Hall Haven, which has helped to beautify the park. Our sincere thanks are extended to Connor and his troop for the wonderful addition they have made to Pine Knoll Shores. Some of our park enhancements have been delayed as a result of the unexpected visit by Hurricane Dorian, but they will be completed soon. Ramsey Parks basketball goal is partially erected, and the tether ball set will be ready to go soon. Additional tree removal is planned for several dead pines at Brock Basin, resulting from the pine beetle infestation, and dock and pier upgrades at Hall Haven continue. Progress has been made and continues. Property owners are encouraged to scour their lots for dead trees, which may be a result of the pine beetle infestation. If dead trees are found, a tree removal permit application can be obtained from town hall. Once done, the Community Appearance Commission will go to your property, inspect the trees in question and determine which trees can be removed. The property owner can then contact a qualified tree removal contractor of their choice. Expediency is important to prevent the spread of the beetles. A few items of concern: • Homeowners and lawn care service companies are asked to refrain from blowing yard debris into the canals. The trash can cause damage to boats and personal property. • Only property owners themselves should request a gate card replacement. At times, tenants, guests and relatives request a new gate card, which results in security concerns. Replacement cards will only be issued at the request of the actual property owner. • Leased boat slips may not be reassigned or sublet by the lessee to any other party, including family and friends. The boat moored in the leased slip must be registered and insured in the lessees name. • When enjoying the Pine Knoll Shores parks, residents and guests are asked to dispose of trash in the appropriate receptacle. Recycling rules should be followed, and no other items should be placed in the recycling bin. The same is true for the bin designated for dog waste. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Though the Labor Day weekend has come and gone, the sittum gatherings will continue on the first Sunday of each month, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Come join your neighbors. PKA contact.
